Hello there friends.
I made a video review recently of the Ronin Katana Euro Model #7. Before watching the video keep in mind that it has some adult jokes in it.
I got the sword from Ronin Katana to do some destructive testing on but it has been to cold to get that done. I will update this post when I finish the failure testing but for now, its just a simple review and quick thoughts.
As a side note, I was told that this sword is the same one Paul S. tested in China. When I mention that it was used by someone, that is who I mean. (at least that is the rumor)
These are the specs for this one.
Blade Length: 36.5"
Handle Length: 10.5" (w/ pommel)
Blade Width at Guard: 1.6"
Blade Width at Tip: .7"
Blade Thickness at Guard: .27"
Blade Thickness at Tip: .12"
Weight: 3lb 7oz
POB: 3" (from guard)
COP: 22" (from guard)
The sword is nimble and fun for its size and cost. I feel very positive about it overall. I like the shape, size, look, and cost. I like how the blade handles and cuts.. so far anyway.. The only things that stand out as complaints are the unevenness between the pommel and the grip, the cord wrap on the grip, and the odd COP. I am also not sure if the COP is bad or not. It seems low to me but I am not a HEMA practitioner, I don't know if that is good or not.
I wish I had the swords most reliant competition to compare in hand. I used what I had around in the video but it would have been nice to have a Hanwei Tinker, Cold Steel Long Sword, and something from Windlass. The ones I compared it to were very different swords and they are not targets for the same buyer.
I looked on KoA and these were the prices. They seem in the same ballpark.
Hanwei Tinker Bastard $220
Windlass 15th century Longsword $220
Colds Steel Italian Longsword $250
Ronin Euro #7 $250 (on SBG store)
For the money I think it is a solid deal.
