Hello all, I have recently bought a hanwei tinker bastard sword and have a very tight handle. It will not move it's like it is glued.I bought it new from knife center and it doesn't look used. I don't need to remove it but if I have to or want to change blades it's something that needs to be done. Is there any tricks short of cutting the grip off?

You should be able to remove it by alternately tapping down on the guard lightly with a mallet. First one side, close to the blade and then the other. You can increase power but slowly. You don't want to snap the handle. If you don't have a mallet a hammer will do, just keep a piece of wood between the hammer and the guard so you don't score the guard.

If its a hex nut pommel, and it should be since I've never heard of it being made any other way, then the grip should not be glued on- unless someone added glue after the fact. The grip might be tight but it should come off as described by demonskull. If you don't have a soft head mallet of some sort, then fashion a piece if wood to hold against the guard as you knock that piece of wood. Something like what is used to remove a katana handle www.thesamuraiworkshop.com/_articles/koshirae-nuki/A version of this for a euro would be wider of course so the blade could rest inside the groove while the wood rested against either side if the guard

I ran into the same problem on my sword. Just hold it upside down by the handle and tap the tang with a rubber mallet. If you have a vice you can open it so it will fit the width of the blade, open it a few centimeters past that and put it in blade down so its hanging off the vice by the crossguard, then you can mallet it down easier
