Look, I bought from them twice now. No matter who you go through, there are good and there are bad with any of them. The good, is that they are pretty good with their customer service. But could also be better. They said that they would let me know when my first sword shipped out, then 10 days later it arrived. Stars for great speed on the shipping, but none for leaving me hanging. They do have quite a bit of variety. But with that, have quite a few false descriptions. The very same first sword that I paid over 400 dollars for had mixed up metal parts. Their website description said one thing, and the product was something else entirely. All the parts for that sword were also glued together. After cleaning it I found out why, all of the parts were loose. The Tsuba (hand guard) was supposed to be copper, yet was brass, the fuchi and Kashiri (parts on the bottom and top of handle) were also supposed to be copper but were some kind of unidentifiable silver metal, the paint on these parts were very poorly done, and the menuki (handle ornaments) were some crappy junk metal that snapped apart and the sageo is some cheap chemical fiber (not silk). Anyway, the big thing is that no matter who you buy from, do your research! The katanas are mass produced in China (which makes them affordable). And with that in mind, none of them are going to be top quality. But sometimes, some cannot afford top quality, and yet still would appreciate a great product. I got two wakizashi. One sharpened with electroplating and one unsharpened. I will gladly show to anyone pictures by email about the swords. I couldnt post pictures on this webpage. The customer service is horrible. Not only i was called a lier for complaining for defects in the blades, but also was told that the quenching marks on the blades and defects on the blades where my fault because i left the blades rust. Unbelievable bad manners that i believe goes with someone that doesnt understand english. Mr. tony reply that the visual issues on the brand new t10 folded and clay steel blades was due rust. This on swords received 12 days ago. Jan 12,2021 i also have videos of the blades, i will gladly email to anyone to show the issues. Just ask me. Aburgoslc@yahoo.ca In a nut shell, if you want a good looking 541.00 usd wall hanger, yes buy from katanasforsale.com. i admit, they look from faraway amazing, but If you want good customer service and good quality swords you can rely on, buy ANYWHERE ELSE. This guys are obviously a scam and nobody should by even a fork from them Seems to be pretty standard for ebay style Lonquan sellers. Unfortunately they use words and images that fool the masses into believing their items are quality. Reality is that most people have no idea of what to look for and fall for the hype and many don't even know they have bought rubbish and laud the items on other sites and pages, which lead other uninformed to keep supporting these scammers. Caveat emptor has never been more applicable than when dealing with these companies.

I ordered one from them and it's been a week and a half. How long did it take to get your order?

Thanks Lancelot for sharing the videos. I see what you are referring to. Good thing for me is none of my Lyuesword katanas have bent or taken a set. I even accidentally cut into my cutting stand once and no damage. I was really surprised that it didn’t bend. I have never bought from Sinosword so I do not know how well they would hold up

So, all in all katans for sale is a terrible place to buy from.
What is a good and reliable place to buy a Katana, even if it's a little bit pricey. Worth it for better quality.

I own some eBay Longquan swords from a seller named 201liche also known as Hero Sword. I have to say for what I received they exceeded my expectations for the money spent. My first purchase was a 1095 pattern forged katana with a red color on the blade. For $130 I was not expecting much. It cuts tatami and water bottles NP and the fit and finish has remained intact after 3 years of usage. After owning that particular sword for a year I bought 2 30.5" blade tachis with very nice furniture and clay tempered pattern welded 1095. They gave the pair of them to me for $750 and I have say they are both super nice at $375/ea. Both perform flawlessly and are on the heavier side with no bohi. I also bought a matching red wakazashi to match my first sword at $100 and a $100 straight blade normal 1095 sword in shirasaya from them. I have friends with various manufacturers swords, sinosword, jkoo, ryansword, etc. After doing comparisons between us all with various pricepoints I discovered the quality of all was very similar except I paid much less for my offerings. Maybe I got lucky avoiding the sempriniesque QC woes many point out with their Longquan swords. Flashy websites fooling people to believe their product is superior to the next guy seems all too common these days. If one takes some time and goes on eBay you will find the actual blade makers and buy direct instead of paying more for the hype of 3rd party companies rebranding the same products from the same factories.

I just configured my custom katana and it is quite expensive. Before I invest in this company and its product I would love some feedback actual customers have. I was one click away from ordering and I got cold feet.
Anyone? One of my concerns is that when you create a custom sword you can't see what it all looks like when fully configured. I know that is hard to achieve but still.....makes me nervous!

If you are concerned about katanasforsale (with whom I've had no dealings, so I can't say either way) here are some other options:
I defer to MichealRS for details, but you might look at HannonForge.com as another "custom" sword alternative for entry level price points. SBG also sells semi-customs in their store (I have no association with the store, even as a mod of the SBG forums). For mid-level I'd say Huawei, as they do customs, but people are still waiting over 1 year (sometimes closer to 2) to receive them and they are reputed to just refund your order if you email for updates too frequently. Still, they are purportedly worth the weight. Top end of entry level (around or over $1k), some folks are speaking well of Z-Sey steel. Don't know about custom fitting options for them, though.
If your budget is in the $2k range, there's Motohara who are very well reputed. Above $3k you may be looking at named custom smiths or some lucky-find Nihonto (caveat emptor, as lots of scam artists out there).

Yeah-I just made the mistake of ordering a "custom nagamaki" from them and it is PURE JUNK. Loose saya, extremely poor workmanship on the blade, a crimped bohi, thin tsuba, sempriniesque components and I suspect a rat-tail instead of full tang as described on their site. Very prompt customer service in terms of responding to my initial complaint but ABSOLUTELY NO ACTION(S) TAKEN TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. Just a lot of insincere non-productive email correspondance with empty promises. AVOID THIS SITE AT ALL COSTS. Oh, and btw even though the swords are manufactured in some forge in China, my delivery came from KatanaConnection in Wyoming. What a bunch of smooth talking rip-off artists.

Are you talking about katanaaforsale.com or hanbonforge.com? So sorry to hear you had a bad experience, either way.
