Bryan Heff
The Legend of Bryan Heff (a.k.a just a crappy "how I discovered SBG" post)
Bryan Heff is just a mook, a working stiff and family man that leads a boring life of computer programming each and every day. One day several years ago he said to himself, remember when you used to REALLY be into swords back in the early 90s...and you use to flip through those MRL catalogues all the time, saying, ohhhh....that's cool and wow, I like that sword. Well in those days there was no interwebs really, and especially none in the Heff house so that day a few years ago he googled up some sword searches and Boooya...Sword Buyers Guide pops up. Well....he read and got all excited at all these swords, and companies he had never heard of, and all the cool pictures and reviews and he was like...Wowzers there is a lot of stuff out there now besides MRL. BOING! At the time he still had two MRL swords down in the basement sort of stashed away gathering dust and he said....what the heck, I make decent scratch now with the full time computer programming job, maybe I will buy one of these buggers and see what's what. The SBG site was very helpful in describing the good vendors from the not so good etc so he went ahead an ordered an H/T Viking to fill the single hander nitch. Well the sword arrived with all that distal taper and excellent handing and Bryan was really intrigued and started buying more swords....and more swords, and selling swords, and modifying swords and making scabbards and posting on the forum and....well, you know...like a stray cat you fed once he stayed around, looking for free milk and table scraps in the form of good sword info and deals on second hand blades. Now he has a 15-18 sword collection give or take with several high end Albions, some Arms and Armor stuff, a custom or two, Del Tins, this that and the other....all kinds of swords that "speak" to him and say, listen man....you LIKE me because I am a cool sword regardless of price. He can often be found in his small scabbard building workshop in the dark recesses of his basement living like a troll in the dim light, hording swords and making a mess. So yeah long story short he has now gone through a bunch of swords, bought and sold, regripped and custom scabbarded, bare blades mounted and fitted out, all because of the good people and great informative posts found on SBG.
