Howdy folks! This is a sword I commissioned from Yeshua's Sword a while back - I ran into some hard times, tried to sell it, it didn't sell and now I'm in better shape so I went ahead and took delivery of it at last! This set was inspired largely by the XVIIIe type, which always struck me as being very fantasy-heroic. It was not based on any historical example, though - the main objective was to come up with something of plausible fantasy. Ernie did a fantastic job proportioning everything, and the balance is great - right around 4" from the guard. I have a chape from DBK Scabbards already, so as soon as I can get some leather and wood I'll dress this one up! Next up is a Cobra Steel Lakonia. I had this sword before, but wound up selling it and I've regretted it ever since - I made this one basically the same, with a little change to how I did the grip and I gave the blade a bit of a patina. I think I'm going to make the scabbard for this one out of oak, died and treated like the handle, probably with some decorative copper rivets to complete the look. Pete

Both look great!
Just one thing about that Yeshua: the guard looks just a little bit short and thick (I have a sword like that). Does this mean that the blade is very thick at the base to achieve the balance? I ask because that's what my sword does too, and while balance is great, the overall weight is a bit too much.

The H/T longsword blade is quite thick at the base - almost 6mm I think. The guard does, of course, have to be thick enough to go around that and maintain strength, but I wouldn't call it abnormally thick - the bevels on the crossguard might make it look thicker than it is, though. Of the swords I've had, I'd consider it fairly average in terms of guard thickness. As for it being short (I assume you mean width wise?) I opted for a narrow guard mainly to achieve the type of look seen on some XVIIIe swords. It weighs in at a little under 3lb if memory serves, so it's actually a couple oz lighter than the Tinker longsword. Tell you the truth, one of the things I like about H/T blades is their thickness - it allows for deeper fullers which just looks good to me!

I like them both. Long sword looks great. I am happy to see a customized Cobra Steel Lakonia. Never got around to customizing the one I picked up. Sure have been impressed with the blades temper, tough blade and mine takes a razor edge.

Thanks Rain! The Lakonia is indeed a great little sword - Windlass have their ups and downs but their temper has always been flawless in my experience.

Like the Yeshua sword looks like it came right out of the LoTR. What's the specs?

Thanks Newfoundviking! I agree, I'm a sucker for fullers - they just make a blade look so much better IMO. Like the Yeshua sword looks like it came right out of the LoTR. What's the specs? Thanks :D It's 46.5" long and balances 3 3/4" from the cross. Overall weight is 2lb 15oz. Feels quite nice in the hand!
