Might check out this YouTube user. They do simultaneous cutting and some other crazy stuff. Hundreds of cutting videos to enjoy. They also record some of their enbu and cutting competitions. It's also funny seeing people cut with something that I like to call a "cheater sword." You'll know it when you see it. youtube.com/user/shachiNT?

You can. Just cut a lot very often.

Of course, but I do have a full time job and family :) I'd love to devote myself to the sword arts but that's a far cry from what I can afford at the moment (FMA training 4 times a week).
The impressive part about the freestanding tatami is how well-controlled he is, cutting that close to the pavement while keeping the alignment on point.

Don't we all wish we could dedicate ourselves to the sword? I get as close as I can balancing college and work. I practice most days of the week, even late at night (what's sleep? lol). I can't afford to do stuff like tatami though. I'll have to stick with a poor man's alternative.
I wonder what kind of exercise is done to reach that kind of confidence in one's own skill.

I wonder what kind of exercise is done to reach that kind of confidence in one's own skill. Many repetitions over long time. When you learn you can do something consistently you get more confident at both doing it and at pushing it's limits. I think the amount of failed attempts might be greater, he just doesn't post it. You can see on the channel you linked how many fails they have, yet they take gold medals regularly.

Hey guys, i know this thread is 3 years old, but i also stumbled upon some Guiness World Records videos of Mr. Isao Machii and was amazed. He is a true devotee to the craft and very pleasing to see someone so dedicated in today's day and age.
My question though: does anyone know what is Isao Machii's preferred katana that he does these records with? I think it would be interesting if he prefers something full custom, or maybe one of Hanwei's performance series production katana

Since he lives in Japan he would use a Japanese made sword. Hanwei's are Japanese styled but made in China. He does have a preferred maker that he shared on his Facebook page a long time ago but I cannot remember who it is.
