The closest I've seen are clamshell-hilted claymores. See www.swordforum.com/forums/showthread.php?106052-Clamshell-Claymore-Highlands-or-Lowlands for some discussion.

But those have symmetric hilts, with two shells curved towards the pommel.

The description implies there are two shells, same as on the Scottish ones.

Yeah, it's a fantasy design with no historical precedent for the sword as a whole; the individual components do have more or less close historical analogues, but each from a different context than the others. I'd call this historically inspired, at most.

It's not unattractive, though! Not sure I like the chunky crossguard all that much, but the overall proportions and lines do appeal to me.

PS. Ooh, I like that texture on the shell, too!
