William - thank you! Voltan - it's no water dance sword that's for sure. That's good, since water dancing is from Bravos, not Dorne... Seriously, it reminds me of the spears Prince Oberun Martel from Dorne used in Tyrion's trial by combat, and even A LITTLE like his brother's guard's weapon. Really unique, well done piece.

I've spent the last couple weeks watching all the seasons of GoT so I know my Braavos (notice the correct spelling ) and Dorne weapons now. I think Fallen has some Valyrian steel but he's saving it for a special project.

Speaking of Oberyn, while his spear has a longer haft, yours still reminds me of it...

That's a badass screen shot! Doesn't the Mountain's sword look a lot like Bryans ht ring pommel sword?

Possibly 2.5 times..... true but the Mountain is twice the size of any regular guy! I prefer your cross to his and your full wrapped grip vs the metal collet(?) on his. Re. Acer Saccharinum - was impatient in my search for more quilted maple and picked out a board with only a bit of quilting but a fair amount of birds eye actually. So I can get started on the scabbard today!

Not sure anymore if the pattern on this maple is birds eye. Sanding the wood is having a funny effect on it. Seems to be disappearing in places. We'll see I guess

Some pics of the scabbard coming together. Keeping it overbuilt like this - I like how it looks almost shield like. Put some handles on it and you can use it for Gioco del Ponte

Ok what is Gioco del Ponte. Hmm, thought the weblink would be more obvious. From the link: An adaptation and continuation of a venerable medieval civic contest, the Game of the Bridge (Gioco del Ponte) was a mock-battle held annually in the Italian city of Pisa with almost no interruption from 1568, the date of its establishment, to 1807. The male inhabitants of the neighborhoods north and south of the Arno River, which divides the city, would meet in battle over a bridge and fight to gain control of it and to invade the opposite side. The participants wielded specially made wooden shields, which they also swung as clubs, and wore obsolete medieval and Renaissance helmets and body armor originally designed for warfare but altered for the game. They also personalized the combat gear with the bright colors and mottoes (war cries) of the individual squadrons on each side. This shield was made for the Dragoni squadron.

As always excellent work Chris, just a thought on the scabbard, I'd place a bridge near the throat to help keep your fingers away from that blade as you draw and sheath it.

As always excellent work Chris, just a thought on the scabbard, I'd place a bridge near the throat to help keep your fingers away from that blade as you draw and sheath it. Thought about a bridge when I was making it but decided to skip it. Would have set some dowel pins into the front if I was going to do it. Just have to be careful of where you grab it when unsheathing. Scabbard is done. Fairly straightforward design mimicking the blade shape. Made a simple brass pin which goes through the scabbard and the blade ricasso for a totally secure hold, but the scabbards stays on fine without it. Added the pin for the helluvitt really - just wanted to do it. Going for a completely impractical tacticool back strap baldric carry on this. The leather strap will be made pretty much like the baldric on the VA Zombie Slayer, and it will be just for carrying, no unsheathing this sucker while it's on my back. I already have my adjustable sword belt which truthfully would be a better way to carry such a large sword... but as we all know, in the world of 'swordiness coolity' the more illogical the carry for the sword the cooler it is. I've cut the main strap pieces so far. Still need to decide the shape of the section which will wrap around the sword and hold it to the strap. Also want to get a center post belt buckle for it as I only have regular D ring buckles that will fit the width. I'm going to try my hand at some simple tooling of this piece, and I am waiting for some stamps and a swivel knife I ordered before I give that a go.

Now it reminds me of the paddles from school. Got a few used on me. Just glad they were one handled models and not 2 handled.
