Now I'm rather new to this all myself, but all my research and the experience I've had so far with my War Sword suggests that Hanwei would be worth a look

Is it me, or is this thread duplicated in the beginners section as well?

If your looking for a reasonably priced cutting sword, the Tinker line is decent for thr price-point. I would recommend the Fullered hand-and-half sword is the dimensions and balance are pretty good and the lock-nut design lets you replace the blade for a reduced cost instead of buying a whole new sword.
Some Cold steel products are good. The Italian longsword is a fairly nice cutter and quite durable but lacks the locknut in the pommel so when the sword does wear out it will be necessary to replace the whole sword.

I would say add another $75-100 to that and get a Valiant Armoury which is a lot nicer sword. and if not there's one for sale in the SBG classifieds for $275. Did you notice that there are a lot of Cold Steel in the blem page, think about it. Had a blade break in my hand one time just cleaning the shipping grease off of it. customswordshoppe.com/

What type of sword are you looking for? There are three main choices for quality euro's on a budget. Other than the classifieds which would be your best bet to find a good deal. First is the hanwei tinker line. It's the cheapest out of the three. You get an all around decent sword built on a good quality American made blade of 5160 steel. With and scabbard and grip you can redo if you want. Second is Valiant Armoury. There in the middle of the three for prices. You get a very good looking sword overall built on a quality blade of 1060 steel made in China. The grip, and hilt furniture( pommel and guard) will be of better quality and much fancier looking then the tinker line. Plus you get a very attractive high quality scabbard with all of Valiant Armoury's swords. You third choice would be Albion's squire line. Their the highest priced of the three but also the highest quality. The squire line is built to almost the same specs as their counterparts in albion's next gen line with slight differences and less refinement on the finish. You get a very high quality American made sword. Built on a very high quality blade of 1075 steel. The overall look might not be as fancy as some of VA's swords and the price not a cheap as a tinker but you get a much more historically accurate and better performing weapon from albion. I'm not saying there aren't other great choices out there but when someone wants a good quaintly euro sword on a budget. These are the three main choices I usually suggest. I've owned swords from all three company's and think you get what you pay for but also believe you get more then your money's worth from all three. It all depends on how much cash you want spend and which opinions best suite you.

Hanwei Tinker blades are made in China at the Hanwei factory forge.

Yup, made by Hanwei's Dailan forge. Probably the best sub $300 longswords on the market.
They were designed by Tinker who licensed them out to Hanwei. Was all the rage circa 2010 if I remember correctly.
My only complaint, they look a little plain and the factory edge is so so. But handling, steel and performance once given a slightly better edge - it's the Tinker Longsword for the win me thinks..

I've got a Tinker longsword that should be delivered today, if I can keep myself from customizing it tonight I'll try and put up a quick review on it.
