In lots of movies, anime, tv shows we see swords that are ridiculously huge, structurally unsound or just dumb. I want to dedicate a thread to swords that would actually work from any of your favorite forms of media. My first picks for working fantasy blades are trunks sword from DBZ and Mugens from Samurai champloo. So humor me with your favorite fantasy swords that aren't nonsense, let's discuss them, let's question each other, let's see if these designs don't just hit the community.

Anduril and Glamdring from Jackson's LOTR - yes, the UC versions were pretty weighty but I think they could be made within a decent weight if somebody tried. Anduril's pretty massive, so it'll always be a bit heavy.
I don't honestly have much more - I always loved the gunblades from FFVIII but they're definitely kinda impractical :D I generally find unrealistic quite unattractive - though Sephiroth's sword was pretty epic as well.
Talion's sword from Shadow of Mordor was pretty cool also - not impractical, similar to movie swords but new all the same.

DSA did an andruil sword that seems awesome in build quality. Sephiroth's sword is actually feasible as well.

DSA did an andruil sword that seems awesome in build quality. It seems tough, but the weight always bothered me and the shorter blade - the blade is about 4-5" shorter than the movie one I believe and it looks a bit broader, I think. Are you sure about Sephiroth's sword being feasible? The blade never looks to be less than 6' long (using him for scale as an average height person) and sometimes significantly longer. I know it could physically be made, but I don't think it could be wielded. That said, despite not being that big into Japanese swords I'd love to get me a nice big odachi.

Sephiroth's Masamune, according to the FF wiki, has a blade 6-8' long with a varying amount of curvature and the hilt generally being depicted as no more than 13" (particularly in Advent Children). While you could physically build it, it wouldn't exactly work. The blade would be far too long and would bow under its own weight, the sword itself would be very heavy (relatively speaking, at least; I'd imagine it to be about 8-9lbs at the absolute least), and the balance point would likely be measured in feet instead of inches. If you want a Final Fantasy sword that works, I imagine Kadaj's Souba from Advent Children would be far more practical by comparison; it's about the same size as a regular katana, the only thing that sets it apart is the second blade. It'd be more complex to forge than a single blade, but if you did each half separately (like dual Chinese dao) and then did a bit of fancy hilt work to combine the two, I could see it working. For others, basically any of the (human-sized) swords from Escaflowne, as they're basically katana with European styled hilts. But, if we were looking at something with a bit more fantastical flair than that, I'd say Kanshou and Bakuya from Fate/Stay Night: They're basically fantasy styled Chinese dao, after all, and I don't think their blades are much longer than 24".
