Yeah, the Mike Loades response is good reading to place the video's claims in context. I accept that his historical claims are BS. I still think it's a cool video. Watch it without any sound- that is what I did initially and it's the best way imo.

Thanks for that link Riflemanlizard. I don't do Facebook so I hadn't heard Mike's response till seeing your post. LOL he pretty much says what I have been, but maybe a little nicer and better written.

In the video the narrator discusses how these techniques already existed but faded out of popularity Faded out of popularity? People still use the push pull method all the bloody time! Fred Asbell talks about it in his series of books on instinctive shooting, and they're not that old !

Thanks for the link RL very interesting reading, although I would tend to disagree slightly with what he says about English war archers shooting off the right hand side of the bow using the Mediterranean release style,I've given it a fair go with my bows which range from 60-75# and there seems to be no way to keep the arrow against the bow,a problem which is exacerbated as the draw weight increases. I also contest the supposed lack of effectiveness of a back quiver, although I will agree that they aren't used in battle archery, but I'd bet that they were just as effective in the past as they re today

This came up at the club tonight. Make no mistake; we're still correcting new students and fans of the OMG Andersen vids.
An accurate and well-deserved kick in the balls from SP:

Yeah, its been a while, but the mistakes in that guys videos still bug me. Whats more irritating is the way he puts down other forms of archery. Your video made it a lot better - thanks for sharing :P

Yep I have known about the Skeptically Pwd video for awhile, but figured it was not worth dredging up the Lars debate again to post it here.

We teach an ArcheryGB beginner's course once every two months and without fail someone will mention Lars Andersen one way or another, either by name or demonstration. It really caught on, people soaked it up, with the upside being that it brought a lot of fresh faces to the sport. The downside is some quickly lose interest, realizing nothing we do resembles Dungeons and Dragons or is anything close to Medieval Tactical Longbow Dynamics 101. I'm still trying to master the Down-step Shield Slide move that I hear will give me mad props. Only then will I get hot elf chicks. The whole thing reminds me of the old Chosun Ninja guy from years ago. The mall ninja guy with the ninjitsu scrolls. The Emperor's new clothes it seems.

The whole thing reminds me of the old Chosun Ninja guy from years ago. The mall ninja guy with the ninjitsu scrolls. The Emperor's new clothes it seems. Oh I totally understand, I tried to explain exactly how this would end up playing out (Just like you are dealing with) to plenty of the Lars fans who tried to say it was just harmless entertainment and archers shouldn't be getting all worked up over it. Yes Chosun Ninja is a pretty good example, thought CN never got the following that Lars has built up. We will sadly be seeing Lars BS being brought up for over a decade I am sure. The recent hype is fadding, but there are a ton of teenage kids out practicing their butts off to become just like him. Some of these are posting their progress on youtube. After some of these kids get good enough they will end up sparking a resurgence in Lars as they spread his disinformation to other new kids. In the end there will always be idiots who will cite Lars as if he holds some secret truth. Is Lars a good trick shooter, sure he is. But he is also a joke due to the claims and BS he adds to his trick shooting.
