I've just come up with an Anduril inspired hilt set which I think would look really nice in bronze. Still haven't settled on whether to adapt the set for the HT longsword or the GSoW. Here's a mockup. And some close-up details: Since I have bronze in mind, this should be available sooner than most of my (steel) hilt designs.

I think Longsword is a bit too light duty sword for Anduril. If I owned a GSoW blade with Anduril fittings, I would get someone to give the blade just a bit more of a taper in the last ten inches near the tip and it would be perfect. I have a singlehander made with GSoW blade with such a change done to the tip area and the blade looks awesome like that.

I agree with what Luka said (minus the bit about owning a GSoW arming sword), though I think the grip looks a bit off paired with the GSoW; looks a little too renaissance to me, whereas the blade feels more medieval.

Yes, I think the pommel should be a bit bigger.

I agree with all of the above - I think the GSoW blade would be better, but agree that it needs a hefty pommel to balance it out. Bronze is slightly heavier (around 10% heavier I think) than steel but one must be careful, at least. Can your 3d modelling program tell you the volume of a part? If so, you could buy the GSoW (since the bare blade is not available) and measure the pommel's volume in water in a measuring jug to determine the size of pommel you would require to approximately equal the weight or increase/decrease as you see fit. A longer pommel (as in the film Anduril) might make it easier to achieve without compromising the look.

I've already done the volume measurements and I have approximate weights for the two pommels. Sheesh guys I've been doing this for a while now You're right though, the GSoW pommel should be a bit larger in the mock-up but really not by much.

I think you're right on, though I may be in the minority. Tolkien did describe Aragorn as using it with a shield, so I think a longsword design is right on!

well one concern is the availability of bare blades...

if your gonna do it i suggest you use the GSOW, when i made that custom longsword with the bristol fittings i was going for a LOTR feel too but the blade is way too light and not wide enough to give the overall feel at all. a GSOW with a reprofiled tip like the ones sonny made a few years back would be perfect

Well, if one would want an Anduril as Tolkien imagined it, it should probably look like an anglo-saxon early medieval sword, not a hand and a half sword or twohander. But for the feel of the movie inspired Anduril, you need a longsword with some real heft, movie Anduril was a big sword...

Going from my personal taste, I liek those fittings on the longsword. However, I do think Anduril should be a slightly oversized sword for a man of average height so perhaps the GSoW is more what you;re looking for. After all, Anduril was once Narsil who belonged to Elendil the Tall. IIRC, he was close to seven feet tall in Tolkien's descriptions, yes? Aragorn was also rather tall, but I don't think he quite reached Elendil's height.
