Does a reverse cut require a lot more effort than a regular cut? No, not really. It's more of a snap motion, rotating both wrists up and back. Best way I can describe it is by lifting a little while rotating the sword around the forward hand, using the rear of the grip as a lever, with the back hand pushing down. Think "setting the hook with a rod-n-reel while catching fish."
