Ya, I get that, still just a small guard about a half inch wide would do it for me. Just a personal preference.

I would have liked a guard, also. Unfortunately, for krabi krabong and muay thai barang, the dha is constructed in such a way to not have one on purpose. Notice the handle is quite long and acts as a counterbalance to the way the blade is wielded. This is specifically to facilitate the purpose the way the above mentioned arts are deployed for such a weapon.

BTW, the handle is not the slightest bit loose after that lifting and chopping of the one block. I would not attempt that with a Cheness. FYI the handle is glued to the tang. The little meguki-like pins are just for show. forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=66236

good question sword.
I haven't tried, plain and simple. I would have thought just the two pegs out, but if it is glued, it may turn into one of those "destroy the handle jobs". I am considering it, not considering it.
Considering it because I'm curios, and have entertained the thought of a true tsuka with a tsuba mounted on it.
Not considering it because of church, a wife, 3kids, a farm and a job. Not much time left for projects. Most me time is spent in a hurried rush trying to fill up water bottles and cut ;D

I am happy to see that something that comes out of Hanwei doesn't break on contact.

Yes! The ole Banshee. That's a log-time favorite of mine. And they seem to make a good starting point for custom projects too. Here's a thread on SFI that shows a couple of cool custom swords built from banshees. And it shows a good picture of the disassembled blade with bare tang. Banshees turned into single hander swords

Wow, Shooter!!
My wheels are turning now!
You own one of these, don't you? This little sword is a diamond in the rough, I tell you. Really tough blade to be had for just over 100.

Yessir I do. I've had it for about a year and kinda have mixed feelings about it. Love the blade and scabbard, but don't care for the grip. I've been contemplating turning it into a cutlass-like-thing with sort of a falchion guard.

like they did on that link No, not really. That was more of a saber or shamshir grip with a crab-claw guard. I don't care for the crab claw guard, though it's very unique. I really like the idea of the saber grip, but don't think I could build one that would look decent. I have a different idea for the guard and pommel. But who knows if I will ever get time to make it.

Looks like it would make a great nag blade, that is for sure. Thanks for the pics from SFI, Shoots.

That blade looks really nice vfarmer, I wish I had one to abuse as much as I like . I personally love swords without guards, they look so much sleeker.

Sorry for not responding DRm. I will pm with the response. No blade damage what so ever SL,
My camera is not high def enough. But none. I have put a little nick in it, as it buried into the stand a little on one of those splits, and hit the recessed nail holding the platform on. VERY small nick. This is probably the toughest sword that I own, maybe the shura would be a close second, but I am trying to sell it, so I havent cut with it since the first time.
