The fact that you persevered to work this out until you got it down using only your phone caused me to give you a +1 Karma. I liked the review as well.

And some more photos. Thank you for that karma. I have spent my entire 3days off rewriting this reveiw then loosing it on my phone. But I was determined to get it out here. I felt strongly that I had to share this sword.

Very nice review. Definitely looks like a nice sword. Do you find the grip a bit more comfortable if you wear gloves?
The scabbard is kind of funny, I wonder if they gave you the wrong scabbard (put a wolfsbane scabbard in the box by mistake). I bet theres someone out there gettign a Wolfsbane with a scabbard too short and no belt which they ordered.
I dig this sword, if I see it out there 2nd hand I'll probably pick it up.

It does make a great difference to wear a glove. And the more I handle the sword the more I am growing to actually like the grip. I have to clarify that with the explanation that it is still very rough grip that is painful in the hand. But I have changed how I feel about the overall shape. In fact i think that if the grip was larger in diameter but kept the same shape and had a smoother surface it might be a very good grip. How ever as I said in the reveiw I like it just as it is and will wear a glove when using it. And as for the scabbard it is very possible that they switched scabbards in packaging. But since it seems quite common that they provide generic scabbards for all their swords, and since it fits my Wolfsbane so well I figure it was a fair trade. And if some one else got the wrong one I guess they will have to talk to DSA. Good luck on the search. I like mine so much I find it hard to believe people will resell theirs but I have also been told I'm crazy on more than one occasion so what do I know.

Excellent review. Karma on its way. Yeah, that scabbard looks to just be the wrong one for sure.....whoops. Glad to hear you can switch the 2 scabbards around.
I like this model a lot more than some of their other viking style swords.

Hi Alan!
We're glad that you love the sword, and we're terribly sorry about the mix-up with the scabbard - the correct one is on its way to you shortly. We are in the process of training somebody new in the back who is generally doing a great job, but occasionally something does slip through the cracks.
So, dreadfully sorry about the scabbard, and thank you for the review - I've passed it on to Eyal!
Best regards,
Robert Marks

Thanks for the nice and interesting review. Your pics are great and really show the details.
I know I am obsessive about some details, and the grip length just bothers me so much. 4 3/8 inches is 11,1 cm, and it is very rare length for viking sword grip. My own preferred viking sword grip length is around 9 cms.
This isn't a sword for my taste but I hope you enjoy it. It looks to be well built sword.

the grip length is actually one of the things i like most about this sword, tired of those tiny tiny tiny wrist busting grips  my sausage mitts need some ROOM

Robert I want say thanks you guys up there at DSA really do follow through on your customer service. I wasn't that upset by the issue but the fact that you read that and so quickly moved to take care of it says world's about you folks and your commitment to customer service. So thank you for sending me the correct one. And I think my reveiw said it all I do really like this sword , more every day. I think that the grip is longer than necessary. And to my limited knowledge, is longer than you would find on most originals, but this is only my second viking sword so not much previous experience. And as our friend Saito so succinctly expressed it. Some peoples "sausage mitts need room". It certainly does not detract from my overall like of the sword. In fact I would carry it with me all the time if I could get away with it I think it might even be taking over my mind. "feeling need for shield and horn of mead and a long ship to set sail in" And I wanted to thank everyone for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed my reveiw.

Very nice sword, DSA has come a long way in improving their line of Viking swords this being their best yet. Think I might check with them to see if they would sell them without the scabbard. Would rather make one with bronze fittings to match the sword.

Great review Sir Alan. I'm glad DSA is stepping up and showing constant improvement, and your scabbard issue was resolved. Also I commend your patience with them, as they are a company, and on occasion, mistakes get made. Heck some of the ones I've made have been doozies.
So a question on the handle/grip. Have you tried it with different types of glove? I know my wife says I'm a OCD-Picky-Bas***rd but I really do find a difference in thin vs thick gloves, and a variance in leather types might make a difference. So IMO, don't spend any money, just borrow your friends golf gloves etc and see what you think.
I can say from an ergonomic standpoint, the handle is not what I prefer (shapewise) but damn it's pretty. What I think is happening is the process they use to do the knotwork leaves sharp edges, but sanding the edges down might compromise the look. Not sure what would be a good solution other than gloves.
Overall, I'm jealous, that's a pretty sword.
Can you post a pic of the replacement scabbard?

I've heard the same criticisms of the hilt elsewhere, but I have to give them an A for trying and coming up with something different and beautiful. It's the best looking Viking sword I've see - this side of the Suontaka by Castle Keep, and it costs close to three thousand.
