Start off making weapons out other things laying around the place deciedde to do it agian, but this time by forgeing it out. Starting with a old rustly lawn mower blade. Not going th polish it out just wire bush the rust off of it once the forging is finished. This will be a big bush knife/machete. It won't be pretty but is should be a tought working tool. Here's the lawn mower blade. The blade in the forge heating up, first I will straight it out. All straighted out. Forging in the tang. Getting there. Tang finished frogeing in the point Forging in the point. Still froging in the point. Ran out of time for today, I'll finish forging in the point tomorrow morning. Also will get the tang holes drilled, nornalize, harden, and temper the blade.

Finished up the forging, clean up the profile, noramalized it 3 times, drilled the tang holes, hardened and tempered it. Now as soon as it has a handle I'll grind in the bevels, sharpen it and it will be finished. Going to look like it's 100 years old and not took care of. Still forging in the point Point finished. Overall blade. Just some pictures of the forge coming up to temp. Running at 20psi. Runninbg at 10psi. Blade in forge for 1st normalizing cycle. Cooling off. Forge running at 5 psi for 2nd normalizing cycle. Blade cooling off. Drilling the tang holes. 3th normalizing cycle. Cleaning up the profile with a hand file. Profile cleaned up Going into the quench tank. In the quench tank, picture sucks. After the hardening no cracks.

It's finished now not that many people care. Blade: steel maybe 1075, length 14in, width 2 3/8in, thickness 1/8in. Handle: Curly Maple held on with brass pins and epoxy, length 5 3/8in. Overall Length: 19 3/8in. Weight: 1lb 7oz. This one since it's a machete has a utility edge fairly steep, not shaving sharp but with just a little work it could be. See no reason for a razor edge on a working tool.

Looking good. There is something "evil" about that blade....
