UPDATE 14.10.2014: Backcheck with the canadian seller who makes these Conan-scabbards tells me the grip was reworked by him; when taking of the black leather used by Ryanswords it showed that the wooden grip is peened to the tang katana-like and epoxied in addition. This should result in a quite solid assembly. I will do a reset when i finished "de-antiquing" the sword, even though it seems to be unwelcome and unpopular to do a review of a Ryansword...

I don't think any sword review is unwanted on SBG, everyone here is looking for good swords and information about them.

Sooo, here are the latest pics after an afternoon of elbow grease! I stripped away most of the ugly green stuff on the guard and pommel and also most of the ridiculusly thick brown antiquing; thats more like a 10.000 year old Atlantean should look like... Maybe i leave it at that "rust"-level; really fits the sword better than everything flashy and shiny!

I think i looks pretty good, well done. What i always wondered, is the Conan sword usable for someone not build like Arnold? I once held the Marto version but then i was 12 years old and that was pretty massive

Here is a picture of Aussie Rabbit with an Atlantian Warrior, yes they are heavy but great to cut with two handed , one handed can be a bit trickey. Edit. here is a small cutting Vid with the Atlantian Warrior, this sword is only battle sharp but still slices those milk jugs. follow the link to flickr for the Vid www.flickr.com/photos/86283292@N07/9380643133/

I would not try one handed but two handed and it cuts like a light sabre!

At 2,8kg this RS Atlantean is also not really light, but definitely wieldable. Lighter than the other production types, dont know about the custom made ones weight though... What i rwally like is the perfekt edge, NO trace of secbevs at all . And VERY sharp, ruined three pairs of rubber gloves during de-antiquing it!

Hey schwarzbaer666 looks like you got yourself a decent enough buy there. I love the antiquing on the blade. The guard i preferred with the green patina on it. So is it a Ryan sword been re-worked by the guy you bought it from? If so he sure made some improvement in looks. Yeah do a review there are always guys here that enjoy them. maybe some outdoor photos to.

The first impression was rather bad for me; the patina on the blade was all thick and brown, and the guard and pommel nearly complete green! After that hard afternoon workout it now looks like the pics shown here. And yes, the antiquing and regripping was made by a canadian guy who sells Conan scabbards handmade by him on ebay. Fit is not tight but beautiful work. For a winning bid of 405,- US bucks plus shipping i am not disappointed. The sword alone lists for 500,- at Ryanswords.

I like old so the green wasn't so ugly to my eyes but the blade did look a little too heavy on the ageing. I have to admit as the Ryan sword looks when put out by them i hated it's look. I don't like anything all sparkly and new looking. It almost looks like a toy so that guy made some huge improvements i think. Love to see some outdoor pics. How does the guard and pommel feel? Sturdy?

Theres still a little green left! Yes pommel and guard they feel very sturdy, that ricasso things are REAL tight on the blade; the pommel is a little "hollow" (had it unscrewed) but very thick-walled kind of.

The sword is nice, but it's quite different from the movie. The ricasso is wider on top, like the cheap Chinese knock-offs, while the original has uniform width. The blade does not have a groove, and the runes are very different. It looks pretty functional, but regarding beauty, I personally think Windlass is prettier. It's also probably heavier than an Albion, so this makes it even less functional than a Windlass. But that's just my two cents. Regards, Alexander.

If you had ever seen MY Windlass Atlantean before selling it away you wouldnt say it is prettier than this Ryans...not at all! - crossguard did a lot of dingeling even when shook lightly - quite obvious grates from casting on pommel and guard; if you try to sand them away the pot metal comes out - GIANT gaps between ricasso guards and blade - pot metal was so weak crossguard could be bent with bare hand! - runes WAY out of line with the fuller, even LEAVING the fuller on one side... It was such an UGLY thing, really...maybe they improved? Dont know... :? And at 2,8kg my Ryan is quite lighter than the Albion which is listed around 3,5kg!

Is the tang peened to the pommel?

Is the tang peened to the pommel? Nope. The pommel is screwd on, and the grip is pinned two-times mekugi-like to the tang.

Yeah, the missing fuller is the only letdown; strange they didnt make one though. Looking at their "Ranger"-styled sword they dont seem to have problems with fullers...
