Hi folks,
just won this auction on ebay.ca...kinda jumped into cold water, but we will see. The seller anyway has quite some reputation with over 1200 positive feedback comments, for what its worth. He described the sword as "exactly like the Ryan but with hemp", but DEFINITELY NOT Windlass, warned me of its sharpness, gave tipps how to remove the protective laquer he put on it etc. etc...
gave some trusty impression somehow. We will see!
$_57 (1).JPG[/attachment]
Blade is described as 1095 tempered and hardened steel, SPECIFICALLY NO SECONDARY BEVELS and DISTAL TAPER of 5,5mm - 3,5mm. Weight 5,5lbs, solid copper pommel and guard and wooden grip. I admit, it sounds too god to be true, but i decided to give it a shot :? ...if its crappy there are enough fools around here in germany...
I will keep you guys informed!
UPDATE 13.10.14:
Here cometh the beast...
Measurements seem to be allright as have been told by the vendor.
Materials: Blade is definitely HCS, of course i cant see which type; takes some flex, similar to the Windlass.
It is MUCH more even though; flawless, and the engraving is quite deep and very straight. Not so nice: the Albions and the Windlass are fullered like the "original" blade. Blade is very sharp, despite the HEAVY antiquing, NO secbevs, and some dustal taper as advertised. Pommel seems to be screwed-on type, cant see a peen. Pommel and crossguard seem to be of either brass or bronze, looks not reddish enough for the advertised "solid copper". Grip seems to be wood wrapped with the typical cord. A little concern there is a SLIGHT feeling of movement where the grip meets the crossguard; maybe the unholy "jian hollow wood grip" issue?! Sword would definitely be wieldable, not too heavy for two-handed action, so i have to check that out somehow. Maybe we have a swordmaker here in germany who likes to take a look? Shipping on me of course. Overall, the quality and crisp lines of the blade and the fittings are great, better than the Windlass at all. If this is really made by Ryan Swords, then hats off!
