So I'm trying to gather my armour for the SCA and I wanna know what helms offer the greatest visibility? I know you can buy a helm and put a cage on it but it doesnt look historically accurate at all and looks really stupid. I want something that a knight would have fought in but I also want to be able to see pretty good. Any suggestions?

Surprisingly protective, actually. The broad rim does a good job of covering your face, and you can combine it with a mail hood or a bevor.
I dunno what the SCA regulations for face protection are, though...

yea im pretty sure that would be against sca regulations. And I'm looking for a helm anywhere from 1066- to late 1500's mainly a helm that a knight would wear.

In general, I'd look for a barred Bascinet, it's one of the most common helms on the field, and can be found fairly inexpensive. You won't get better vision that a big open barred face grill. Also with a good surcoat or tabbard, you can wear hidden armor and save money on that by using plastic etc.

I know tourney season is winding down but go to the biggest one you can and LOOK AT WHAT THE KNIGHTS ARE WEARING. Then buy the one you like best. Be sure it passes the knight marshals inspection first. There are very specific standards for SCA fighting helms so read and understand them before you go shopping.
Blatant plug for my canton's big event: Val Day Massacre. We expect 900+/- people for the biggest one day indoor fighting event in Midrealm. Also the best shopping this side of pennsic. Feb 14, 2015 here in K'zoo.

Yea thanks for the advice. Next event I go to I'll pay attention to what the knights are wearing, they are the best fighters so it only makes sense to go off of what they have.
