Great review! I actually have one on its way back from Sonny (just shipped). also the shorter blade version. Had him sharpen, redo the grip, and make a scabbard.
Looking forward to getting it back!

This is a very interesting sword. I love the pommel but the guard has always put me off a bit. I do really like the idea of the transitional nature of the sword fittings...sort of bridging the gap between late Viking Age and Medieval period. The pommel is such a classic shape and looks to be quite comfortable as well and really looks great with a later style blade.
I almost snatched up the Windlass version off of KOA pre-owned (or maybe it was ebay)a few months back. The Windlass has the flared shoulders and looks great, I am still kicking myself for hesitating on the buy because *poof* it was gone.

I grabbed the Windlass one off KOA. It is a classic but in reality, the blade is pretty thick all the way.

Well, I just got my DT5120 back from Sonny! It's amazing how much weight you lose by sharpening, it handles so much better now. It still has plenty of blade presence, but I like it that way. Sonny takes better pics then me so I'll just post his.

It is a Raven Armory blade with John Lundemo fittings. I tracked down the original owner and this is the story behind the blade:
One of my oldest friends was the late Hank Reinhardt. I began corresponding with him when I was in the Army in the late 60s, visited him for the first time in 1970 and we remained close friends until his death a few years ago. I visited with Hank in 1994 when he was in negotiations with Raven to make swords for MRL. The deal never worked out, but Hank had some blades they'd sent, one of them that Oakeshott Type XII, which I got from him. He'd put a serviceable bowtie-and-brazil nut hilt on it, but I was never satisfied with it and thought it fairly begged for that transitional Viking treatment. So a few years ago I sent it to John Lundemo to have one made for it.
