I was surprised to read the blade is 28" long...it looks shorter to me for some reason. Excellent review on one of those swords that you never hear about. I find these very early swords very interesting because they really are very different looking especially in the hilt areas. You see all kinds of variations, many based on the same theme perhaps...but still you get a lot of variation with decoration etc.

This is my favorite sword of this type... and is on my wish list. Thanks for your impressions Bill.

Here is an old discontinued Windlass model. Blade length is 30" and just a hair under 1.5" wide. I put a new wrap on it.

Are you holding the sword at an angle away from the camera in the first two shots of the sword in your hand, because the blade looks really short in those pics? Also, what is you impression of the chrome venadium steel that they use? Lastly, have you had any opportunity to do any test cutting with this sword since you posted this review?
Thanks for the review and thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Thanks for the review and thanks in advance for answering my questions. The first 2-pictures in hand were rotated from the original position which might account for the blade looking shorter. It is as advertised blade length wise. The Del Tin blade material seems good. I think I have only seen one review of one breaking from the many I have seen. He was chopping on a tree though. Unfortunately, I do not live where blade testing is possible at the moment as I am assigned with the government in a foreign country and live in a row house with no yard.

I love the discontinued windlass model. What was it called?

I love the discontinued windlass model. What was it called? I have always just called it a Celtic Sword but cannot find it anywhere. All I know is it is a Windlass and cannot remember where I got it.
