For the price, Marshall is a very good sword, I handled it recently and I really liked the handling, the comfortable grip helped, but if I were to buy one I would get someone to make new fittings and maybe improve the overall finish... I think the blade deserves it...

Similar feeling about this Hanwei. It did have a nice balance. I passed it on for to fuel 19th Cent buys, but remember it kindly.

Not a bad blade but the pommel and cross look a bit weird. Could be a decent subject for a rebuild using new fittings. I believe that the pommel is hollow, so solid one would make the sword more lively in the hand.

Do you still have this sword, Bill? If so, can you check the POB? Is it really 7.5 inches on yours?
Also, is that weight correct (2 lbs 4 oz)?

I don't have a set of good scales but using the regular scales, the weight is hard to determine. I could not just weigh the sword by itself. I came up with around 2 and a half pounds. Not scientific by any means. POB is actually right at 5 inches. I updated the review as well.

I think William's Marshall may be a later model than mine, after they reworked some taper issues and filled the pommel (I seem to recall hearing these changes were made a few years ago, after I bought mine) but the one I have weighs 2lbs 6.6oz (1094g) without scabbard and balances at 7.5" (19cm) from the guard.
I don't much care for it, it's overweight and moves sluggishly. My AT1315 is a much better sword for a similar style.

Right. The older version that you have sounds like a completely different sword. I cut with one of the current generation of Marshall swords on Memorial Day. It feels great in hand, not blade heavy at all in my opinion, and it cuts tatami and bottles very well (with the factory edge).

Part of me wants to try one of the newer models, but then again, I'm just less fond of the aesthetics of the model now.

The aesthetics of the hilt? Yeah, I'm not going to argue with that. Wish they had made it more like the original. But the performance of the sword, along with the beautiful and unique blade design, impressed me enough that I ordered one for myself.

I actually like the hilt, though I find it a bit bulky. As for the blade, it's all right, but I really liked Hanwei's Godfred a LOT better. Kinda wanting another one of those...
