Introduction:
Several months ago I was able to attend a meet up at Razor’s place. There I was able to try out Zombie Tools d’Capitan. I liked the feel and look of it. When I returned home, I went to Zombie Tools website (zombietools.net) and poked around. When I saw the Diphos, it was love. Being a woman, I have less upper body strength, and therefore do better with a two-hander. I liked the smooth flowing lines of the leaf-blade. The length and weight were big factors for me also.
Historical Overview:
As far as I can tell, aside from the leaf-blade, there is no historical evidence behind this sword. It is strictly a bad-ass sword.
Full Disclosure:
I paid the full price for this sword. There has been no communication with Zombie Tools in regards to a review done by me. Razor helped with this review.
Initial Impression:
The sword arrived in a timely manner, less than the six weeks as stated on the website. It came in a cardboard box that was double thick. It was in excellent condition.
Statistics:
Blade Length: 25 inches
Leather Grip: 7 ½ inches
Overall Length: 35 5/8 inches
POB: 3 ¼ inches from cross guard
COP: 14 ¼ inches from cross guard
Blade thickness: 5.84 mm at guard. 5.48 at end of fuller.
Weight:
Without scabbard – 3lbs 2.25oz
With scabbard (which I have enhanced with paracord) – 4lbs 6.25 oz
Components:
The Blade:
The leaf blade is full tanged. It has an edge bevel of about 19 degrees. For being such a sturdy blade it is easy to wield.
The Handle:
The handle is made of t-6 aluminum that is steel pinned onto the tang. It is non-removeable. The wrap is a high quality leather.
The Guard:
The guard is made up of the steel of the sword and the aluminum of the handle. The handle fits nice and tight.
The Pommel:
Is made the same as the guard. It fits comfortable in my hand.
The Scabbard:
The scabbard is made of hard plastic that is molded around the hilt so it “clicks” into place when the sword is sheathed. As you can see in the picture, you can hold it upside down with out it falling out. I embellished my scabbard with paracord to make a strap to wear across the chest.

Handling Characteristics:
Kimberly’s Opinion – I found using the shorter blade of the Diphos less tiresome than the longer blades I have. The grip was comfortable in my hands. I felt it was easy to control and took less effort to make a good cut. It seemed to be weighted well.
Ray’s Opinion - Even though the POB is 3 ¼ inches there isn't much distal tapper and with the shape of the blade, made it a little tip heavy. Using the sword two handed it didn't hinder me. I could do my cuts and go through my guards with ease.
When cutting with one hand, the Diphos , felt like I was using a dao. It gives almost the forward momentum that a dao has, where the forward momentum help transfer from one cut or parry to the next one.
Test Cutting:
Even my husband liked it.
Conclusion:
Pros: This is a very sturdy sword. The scabbard fits perfectly and the acid wash is beautiful. It handles well and is easy on the arms.
Cons: Edge could have been a tad sharper.
Bottom Line: I feel this sword is worth the money I paid for it. It handles well for me and fits my needs. The quality is excellent and the time frame for receiving it was accurate. I would definitely buy another one of their swords.
