I've made a few tsubas with help of a professional welder before, but this is the first full sized one I made completely by myself. It's made of aluminum and it's carved. I'm still practicing, but when I get the right tools and a little bit more experience I'll try to make a tsuba out of steel. Right now I only have dremel, hacksaw and files so making a tsuba out of steel would take an eternity... Here's two pictures of my aluminum tsuba: It's going to an art exhibition at the end of this month. I'll have "tsuba" themed sculptures there and this is one of them. Thanks. Attachments:

Very nice! If that is the first one you made on your own I can't wait to see what you do in the future!

You take commissions? lol, just kidding but this is something that I would like to get into. I never thought of practicing with aluminum. That is a great idea, and I am very glad you shared, please keep posting your progress. That is pretty amazing for your first piece, I would have tried something less ambitious, like just making something tsuba shaped. But it looks like you are ahead of the game! will you be making any more for the exhibit? cheers, Cody

Wow, I'd say that's pretty good for your first tsuba! I am curious to see what other tsuba you have planned.

Thanks, Glad you like it, I'm also quite happy how it turned out. It takes a few hours to make such tsuba out of aluminum. I'd need a band saw and a drill press before it'd be smart to try to make one out of steel. Maybe one day... I have many sketches of tsubas that I'm planning to make. Maybe I'll post a few of them on "members designs" forum some day. Here's one of the "tsuba" themed sculptures: It's about one and a half meter tall. Side note: It can be problematic when showing tsuba shape to average people, because the first thing that comes to their mind is something they'd usually censor. But after explaining what a tsuba is, they find the shape really fascinating. Attachments:

Despite the murkiness of my mind, I would have never thought about that particular "shape" when it comes to a tsuba. Although, it is somewhat appropriate when you think about the tsuba getting mounted lol

Thanks William and Bluesbishop.
Thanks Kurimuzon, Actually it's not about patience or doing what I love. I'm sculptor by profession so it's my job.
