Hi everyone, Here's a pic of a masonite mockup for the falcata which I will hopefully soon have the time to build. Any suggestions/comments would be welcome, Dan P.S. For anyone wishing for information on historical falcatas, this thread, www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t...ht=falcataand the writings of Sanz, Arma y Simbolo and El Armamento Iberico, would be a good place to start.

Hey Dan, you know I'm a bit disappointed by this, I don't really need more project ideas flowing around my head, I've got about 4 swords I want to make in my head already! lol. I love it, and am sure you need not change anything. If it were me I would be a toughy and make it out of 6mm (1/4) stock, not 3/16. What steel are you going to use? Obviously you will be making the grip to fit your hand nicely - What material will the grip be made of? I can imagine the grip made of wood burl with a mother of pearl shell inlay. ? BTW link didn't work for me. [ I like the ad in your signature, I might have to do one too.]

Thanks Brenno, Yep, this bad boy is definately starting with 1/4 in stock....so that it has a mean spine, but still with enough distal tapering to make to able to thrust cleanly as well. I have the stock already, but just need to find the time to fire up the old forge and grinder. As far as handle components I'm either thinking wood and bronze (the wood is up for debate....probably something that would have been common in ancient Spain......olive perhaps?) or possibly bone. Let me know what you think. Dan
P.S. I like your new signature line too !

Dan: I agree with Brenno, I have a khukuri/falcata/yatagan blade that I had him make for me. I went through an inch and a half thick turkey thigh bone with two or three good hits and did it clean. Mine has a 6mm spine on it and boy is it tough.
Bren: I finally worked out how I am going to finish it, woohoo!
