Hey guys I thought I'd throw around some design ideas as I'm playing with them. I'd also like to invite all to submit any designs you'd like to offer me for Knives, Daggers, Dirks, Falchions, Choppers, and other Western and Fantasy short swords. If anyone has a custom design they just would kill to own, PM me to discuss whether I can make it for you, and how much I'd charge. Doodling at work today: Cheers

How did I not see this thread last week? As to Brenno's designs, I'd hurt myself with all of them except D. I'd like to see that one made. BW's designs, I rather like the first picture, the model on the left. Cleaned up a bit it'd make a fine dagger. The rest all look very painful . Especially that raptor claw. I can't imagine that not eating my wrist. That canine thing in the bottom right on the last picture, what the heck I had to laugh. What was the inspiration there? Good to finally see this "syringe push dagger" you keep going on about, too. I have no designs to contribute as I am the farthest from an artist one could get. I am a critic, though, and a harsh one at that, so there you have it. Some spiffy stuff all around, the both of you.

Oh crap! I put the canine thing in there, my top secret design is now available for manufacturers to steal, woe is me! Ok the canine thing did not work out well, I was trying to design a knife that looked like a wolf's head but I ballsed it up, it looks like a deranged kangaroo.
The one in the mess of blades picture that is bottom centre was the original blade of thorns. Yes that is my syringe push dagger and would be much more stable in the hand than most push daggers. You will notice the fairbairn influence. They are designs I am still working on but they are quite awesome in my own opinion, especially the raptor claw, it is one of my favourites.

BW I like the blade of thorns idea, but I don't know what it would be good for. But would look cool.
I think you're on to something with the curly handle, if we carved it to look like a ram's horn. Viking Style.

Bren: The blade of thorns was designed to look cool, it is not practical in the slightest that I can think of, unless I was gutting a rapist and then it might be very practical.

Do a katana with a wire or leather wrap, that would be extreme hotness ;D

I'm scared of Katana's, what with differential hardening, sori, bo hi, tsuka construction etc. I rather just make a solid sword and rivet it together. Have it stay the shape I make it and know it's gonna hold together.
The wire wrap idea would look sweet though, even under ito.

I love scimitars but I don't have access to a camera to put up a design, I could probably find you a bunch done by other smiths though ;D

Remember I'm more interested in novel fanciful ideas than historical boring stuff. Thanks BW. Sam. Maybe I'll start with a Wak some time. Grind in the sori, maybe do multiple small fullers. And the wire wrap grip with leather twisted over. And to top it off maybe a scrolly cross rather than a tsuba. Real hybrid thing.

Bren: ask and you will receive; www.andreas.blicher.info/images/Scimitar.jpgHere is one I've always wanted to own due to how amazing it is, and one day I think I will get it custom done; You could always make a sinbad scimitar, although you are restricted on width aren't you? Damn wish I could get a picture of my godendag scimitar design. Anyway that should whet your appetite, if you need more let me know as I am always happy to help a friend

Yep, definately a complex blade along the lines of that Andreas Blicher one, but I'm thinking more of a hooked grip, and a curly cross, maybe I could weld some spiral rings on to it.

The one that looks like the bastard child of a katana and a scimitar, I like Vic Anselmo's work and I like something that is fairly plain but it's beauty is in its simplicity and practicality, like my slasher. However I really like that Andreas Blicher one.

If you do a scimitar, give a bit of an s-curve, not like a khopesh or falcata, mor yataghan style, just a little bit of finesse.
