Guys (and gals),
A response to a post recently gave me an idea. I don’t know how many of you cut with a stand, but IMO it makes a world of difference. You don’t have as much extraneous matter around what you are trying to cut. I built this in about 15 minutes, after I nicked this 2X4 while cutting. I have attached a Paint diagram as I don’t have cad-lite at home. This may help some, or may seem like my usual senseless banter. All you will need is a hand saw, a hammer, a square(not essential), 2---2X4’s and some 3 inch nails or screws.
And a lot of patience in deciphering my redneck instructions.
Cut your stands height from both 2X4s ( they should be 6 footers)
I cut 1-36 inch piece from each 2X4. Make sure they are square. Nail those two pieces together and make sure that ends and sides are flush. Next, cut 4--10 inch pieces from the remaining length of 2X4. Square these as well. Nail the small pieces at one end(bottom) perpendicular or at right angles whatever term you prefer. Make sure that the end and side of the 10 inch pieces are flush with the end and side you are nailing to. Stagger your nails, so that you do not split the wood. Roll your 36 in (whatever lenghth) in one direction and repeat the nailing process again, making sure that pieces fit tight and flush. Repeat until all are nailed. Stand your stand up, and you should have a stand with a base that is around 15 in. and supports in 4 directions. Cut a small piece of plywood to around 5X5 inches and nail on top. Countersink the nails with anything that will sink them past the head.
Sorry again about the paint graphic. The pics may help.
I just posted this to help anyone who does not have a stand. This is very cheaply made, but if all pieces are firmly fitted and square, it is very sturdy.
Happy Cutting!
