Ok guys, after a few years hiatus, I am back into doing custom armor again. A few weeks ago a friend of mine sent me some photos of some "fantasy" armor he wanted and I, through much arm twisting agreed to lend a hand. We now have opened our own shop and are happy to take custom orders. ShooterMike's our first! So, being the case that I am selling some stuff to a member of this forum, I thought I'd go ahead and show some pictures of current work. I will also Post many pictures of Mikes armor when I get it started. Here is some of the custom armor for my partner, Darin-Master Carpenter. First off, Heimy, the Master Armorer himself on the grinder Concept art(drawn by our EIA)-The rough layout before final polishing and riveting. Not all the plates are there yet.The bottom lamesAnd, as mentioned above, our EIA. What is that you may ask. Well, our EIA is Bobbo, The Excessivley Incompitant Apprentice whos exploits will be closley followed and posted on a regular basis in his own post as we get more pictures. He is an amazing artist, he drew the concept art above. With a pencil, hes great, with a power tool....we stand a few feet away...and around the back of the shop. But hes learning and he tries, and we laugh..the world turns. Thats it for now. Ill get more when its more done and ill do ALOT of shootermikes pics for you guys. Ill also post some of my older work when i get my old computer back up and running.

Also, id like to note: Im usually not one at all for "fantasy" styles. I am hardcore Truist and into pure function and form. HOWEVER, i am willing(through much dismay and arm twisting) to help design and build fantasy. I just personaly dont like it.

Keep Bobbo away from those power tools! Look at the damage he's already done to the front of your car! ;D ;D ;D I hope you'll keep us updated with frequent pics. Nice work!

JpFranco-I have built one and repaired many. The real problem I have is finding the historical hinges for them. I can make them, but that raises the build time a good deal, and the price a little as well. Its been a few years, but I am confident I could make another one . Rammstein-its not homemade, I make it in a shop...is SHOPMADE!!!!!....darn kids and your darned...young people stuff ;D

Nice work Heimdhal. I am very much into armor myself as an SCA fighter. Are you familiar with SCA requirements? I made most of my own armor. It is very plain but functional. You can check it out here: /index.cgi?board=armour&action=display&thread=1171673707
Its really great to have you here because you really complete the picture. We have sword forgers and sellers, and now we have an armorer.
I do almost as much armor maintenance and upgrading as fighting. Its practically a second job. Just last night I caught one shot on the side of my neck that broke the leather strap on my gorget. I'll have to drill out the rivets and put in a new strap in today.
I recently bought a pair of gauntlets that I made some adjustments too. You can check them out here: /index.cgi?board=otherweaponreviews&action=display&thread=1181344435
You can see my armor in fighting action here on the first page: /index.cgi?board=swordtraining&action=display&thread=1179948720
After the Pennsic War in Aug 2007, I will probably upgrade the body. I think I will go with leather over plastic.

I saw those in other post Tsafa. I hear you about armor upkeep Straps seem to take the most which is why i make a point of over building them. I do know a little about the sca requirements, Im not sure if they've changed in the last couple years but Ill look into it. I used to go to SCA fighter practices locally here in south florida, never joined but went to a dozen or so. I dont like fighting rattan, but it was interesting none the less. I agree, leather over plastic is better any day. But thats just me, I am a stickler for historical accuracy and am, in basic words, totally against the use of modern materials such as plastic. BUT again, thats just me personally. Ill get more pictures soon when I get my old computer up and let you see some more of the leather-metal combos, maybe give you some ideas. Either way, I'd be happy to help you out if you have any question. Or even....make some for you
