This came in today and it brought a big to my face. This sword is plain badass. I would recommend folks pick up one of these before they are gone. I will pick up the other one later this month. www.museumreplicas.com/p-1819-s ... sword.aspx

The sharpened version is cheaper? $98 sharp and $128 unsharpened....

Interesting and did not notice it. Got mine on the DoTD.

Because Bill gave the recommendation and I wanted to see what happens if you order the CHEAPER sharpened version, i just ordered it. I'm sure its some sort of glitch, curious to see how it will be handled. Will update.

For a fantasy sword - it looks cool as hell. Both edges come sharpened.
I put some saddle soap on the grip and it darkened the wrap which ties in better with the hilt.

Curse my lack of ANY funds at all. Just started a new job and working 54 hours of week (14 hours OT) so if this were any other week, I could afford this. But this is the week that I'm making sure that I have a place to live for the next month and a means of conveyance. But if the 98 is available next week... you betcha

I got mine on the DOTD too (of course I got mine a sooner than Bill ). I have to agree with Bill on his assessment. This sword is badass. It is a bit on the heavy side for it's size, but not too bad. It's a very cool sword for the price. Cuts real good too!

Indeed...Willhart has one, and he sharpened the hell out of it. We were doing zero-distance cuts with it at a meet-up back in 2012.

How do you guys think it will hold up if you took it into the arena?

Good question but really have no idea. They used many different weapons in the arena. Not sure of the build quality of the typical period Roman gladius.
If I was fighting and not in a formation, I would choose this over a standard gladius.

Would you say it's a tough sword?

Tough enough for the 109.00 I paid including sharpening and shipping. Seriously though - it feels solid for the couple times I have handled it. As far as pell work or long term use in cutting different targets, I have no idea. Have not seen a review along those lines.

The one that I got was a Sparticus Sica Sword from Mueseum Replicas. It's in the same Sparticus line, but looks slightly different with a full wood pommel and brass pins.
I sharpened it so we were doing some nice silent zero distance cuts on water bottles. I used a waterstone to to give it a nice zero beveled edge. It cut through tatami and pumpkins easially as well at our 2012 norcal meetup.
There were some posts of people ripping off the handle to replace it and it has a pretty beefy tang. Defaintely don't want to take this sword against hard targets, but it seemed to hold up really well.

So... I picked up one of these for two reasons... 1. Bill gave the strong recommendation and I thought I'd review one... and 2. There is a weird glitch that shows the sharpened version being 30 dollars LESS then an sharpened one. Windlass charges 15 for one edge and 30 for two... so this is obviously a bit of a glitch where they meant to ADD 30 dollars and instead subtracted. I was curious what would happen if I ordered the glitch sword. Well, it went threw... even can add the SBG discount... so it was 107 for a sharpened and shipped Spartacus sword. It arrived yesterday.
I should have the review up in a day or two. ;-)

Nice little bit of luck on the price. I would of grabbed one myself but I have to many swords to pay off as it is. Can't wait to see the review.

I went to the site as soon as i read Bill's post. I was surprised to see the glitch too, then even more surprised to see it accept the sbg discount on top of that. I ordered 2 and after shipping the total was 97.18 ea. I have looked at this on on clearance several times before, but was afraid of another windlass blade to be honest. Mr. Swiger's recommendation and the zero distance silent cuts on YT sealed the deal for me.

I just bought one to use as a promotional giveaway for a local HFS/LARP group... came out at the discounted price as well. Nice! Thanks for the head's up Bill!
