I don't get a chance to do any metal working since I turned my w/shop into a home gym .I wasn't expecting you guys to take the bevels all the way to the ricasso, but it works a treat.

-hey hey! so what have you been making lately? -you should be getting your workout by doing metal work! --I've always pictured this blade shape sharpened this way for some reason - guess I just really like how the sharp curves look

Fallen has sent me another update pic with more of the rough shaping done. He advises more sanding to come to get into the tight areas and such, then heat treat and temper before finish sanding.

Chris you are really testing me just hope I can make this turn out right. Good thing I have the grinders I can go down to 1 inch disc with. Just don't like using air powered during the winter, they vent cold air during the summer even worst during the winter. Also my big 7 inch grinder stopped working so it takes me longer to do the bevels on this wide thing.
I know when it's finished it will be a shield buster like a axe. With a 3in wide blade it will cause one hell of a wound in a stab. Think you could take a head off with a stab to the neck.
How long of a handle do you plan on putting on it.

I can imagine the curves and shaping must be hard to do. I'll make you a deal - I keep buying stuff from you; you keep buying more tools to make more stuff lol!
I'm figuring a 2 or 3 foot handle - will want to see how it feels with the pommel on the end before I set a final length. I have all the parts to make the handle and I'll have the channel carved for the pommel this weekend, so this won't take me a long time to get started on making like the knife handle did.

Going to have to get your self a metal working drill press. They make life doing steel a lot easier
Of cousre I'll keep buying equipment ans supplies, it's all I do with the money I get form doing these. Just ordered $635.35 worth of blacksmith equipment to go a long with the new anvil.
Just get recovered fast so we can start on the knife to go with the spear and maybe a short sword to go with them.
Pass my bedtime, maybe my teeth won't hurt me so bad so I can sleep better.

I think for a knife version I'd probably not go with a flat grind to center- instead just a bevel around the sides. What would you think of to do for a knife version?

I would suggest 5' of cheap round pine, swing it round a bit then cut off 4", swing it some more, there will be a point when you suddenly think "I cut off too much" - add 4" and there's your length. Then get your favourite wood of choice.

I'm thinking of using it for the UBC cutting contest if I can. Would be a cool way to show it's a new 2014 cutting video if I use a blade just made brand new for 2014

Fallen made a new quench tank - needed one a little wider and longer. Spear point in the forge. Up to quench temp the camera always makes these temp pictures brighter, it is cherry red by eye. Into the quench tank. Came out straight and no cracks.
