Hi folks,
Any thoughts on using gunstock Accuglas bedding material to "bed" a katana tang/nakago so it fits a standard, mass produced tsuka?
Thanks!

That would make for a pretty big tsuka. Might make for a wood replacement.

Do you mean Acraglas, by Brownells? I read about something similar used in the "Construction of the Shinken in the Modern Age" PDF, by Erick Nelson. He used a standard two-part epoxy filled with wood shavings as the last stage in getting perfect tsuka fit. That Acraglass looks nice, but it seems pretty pricey. You could buy enough wood for ~8 tsuka cores for the price of one Acraglas kit. Link to "Construction of the Shinken in the Modern Age" www.macabeeknives.com/articles/S ... 20age6.pdf Thanks, jason

Yes. Thanks! I have a wood core but the fit is a bit loose on the tang/nakago. I am trying to decide if I should go the easier but more expensive Accaglas routine or to see how my wood shims & gluing skills are. RinC

You could try something like this... www.jbweld.com/product/j-b-kwikwood/around 8 bucks on Amazon. The copy says it's made to bond to wood. Haven't tried it myself, of course:) Thanks, jason

All acraglass really is is epoxy. You could get some two part epoxy and mix in some sawdust or use it as is.

Thanks! That JBWeld wood repair epoxy putty looks like it would work. If $8 on amazon, is better than $25 plus $10 shipping. I will check it out. Thanks! RinC
