Scabbard design for my upcoming longsword! Was originally planning to have a more subdued black leather scabbard but that just ain't how the Lannister's roll. I took some inspiration from the HBO Jaime Lannister scabbard design seen here: winteriscoming.net/wp-content/ga ... swords.jpg The Lannisters clearly aren't strangers to overkill with all that filigree; that's one of the ponciest scabbards I've ever seen. I toned it done a little in my design and threw in a generous helping of Lannister red which is sorely missing in the show prop. Anyway here's the design! Scabbard will be polished padauk. The lockets are bronze with soldered on filigree, and there's 4 triangular filigree fitted directly onto the scabbard (i guess they'll be attached by glue). Sword Design over here: /viewtopic.php?f=40&t=17920&hilit=+kingedited for updated design. (It hasn't really changed all that much) Attachments:

Instead of gluing the filigree portions to the scabbard leather, could they intead be stitched on at the corners? That's the first close look i've had at Jamie's gear, and it is pretty ornate. Just the gaudy kind of thjing you'd expect from a Lannister eh? Can't wait to see what you come up with.

hmm, would gluing on the filigree not be secure enough? Maybe if they were soldered onto a brass platform and then glued or screwed onto the scabbard (yikes)?

haha yeah I sent the design to Ernie yesterday, haven't heard back just yet. Yup no decorations on the chape, that's just solid bronze. That idea about "pinning" the decoration into the core sounds like a good idea, have you got any picture examples?

I was thinking that the filigree was to be attatched directly to the leather. If that is the case, i would simply use an anchoring stitch at the main corners of the filigree using only one or two stitches to anchor each individual corner of the filigree pieces. A curved surgical suture needle works wonders for this and is not as difficult as it sounds post glue. Its really very similar to the pinning method, and it avoids epoxy. I feel like the use of epoxy for non functional elements is cheating, and even though the lannisters had the best of everything, epoxy wasnt on the menu.

I asked Ernie if he could do a leather wrap. I'm under the impression he can but for this project he said it'd look better with polished rosewood so here we go! He didn't have any complaints about the design so I assume he has a plan. My project should be on his plate in 2 to 3 weeks so I'm pretty stoked (It's been about 4 months since I placed the order)!
