I refinished this saya in gloss black with acrylic lacquer (just the ordinary spray can ones). I didn't use primer or clear coat. Sanded down to bare wood to 400 grit, 800 grit between coats, final coat 2000 grit then rubbed down hard with metal polish paste and then a good cutting automotive wax polish. The sanding and buffing can be done very quickly after spraying but the saya needs to be set aside for a good few weeks to dry before use.
