True. My dojo is very authentic. But I don't see the credibility of most students.

We don't even have a dojo, we train in a park, more room and no need for mats when you have lovely soft grass to fall and roll on, doesn't help when using the muscle cut, elbow control, flip onto stomach technique, I almost dislocated one of the girl's shoulders at training because I did the technique too fast, it is one of my favourites so I practice it alot and teach it alot. Martial arts is good fun.

It is! I love it, but our teacher is a little too serious.

most of my teachers where just jerks ...... my last k.b. coach used people who didn't want to compete as canon fodder for his other fighters and got mad when I put his star student face down on the mat

I feel everybody's pain in experiencing martial arts rankings "for sale".... My TKD instructor's 5 year old son allegedly earned his black belt while I was training, despite his complete lack of discipline, and his tendency to go into temper tantrums mid class because he was bored...
I did find one karate school in my hometown that I absolutely adored... no contracts or anything of the sort, and there was no such thing as 'testing'... when the instructor felt you were ready to move on to the next rank, he called you up at the end of class and presented you with a new belt.... The only belt you had to 'earn' was black belt ranking, and to earn that, you had to complete a 100 man kumi-te, I wish education didn't get in the way of my training, I miss that dojo...
And, to try and pull the thread back onto point...... right now, no, I don't keep a sword handy near my bed right now.... all of mine are in various stages of being customized.... but if I did have to go with something, I'd probably find a western short sword or dagger of sorts, something that lays flat against/ on the bed (round guards are too big in profile), would be easy to pull (so even if the intruder's in the same room, you can go for your weapon and be unnoticed), and good to use in close quarters..... toting around a 2 hander for home defense doesn't seem that effective, intimidating as it may be....

I'm sure kleveland would be pleased to hear I keep my Gen2 Norman Dagger as customized by Mr. Davis on the forefront of my headboard. It'd probably be what I go for first. If you've not seen them, you should have a look, they're wonderful daggers. Mine happens to have been blued and the grip sanded back to the wood. It looks fantastic, and performs even better. Not bad for $80. Of course, above it is still my Valiant Co. Bosnian and a Nepalese Kukri, and to the side is a Windlass Viking Dirk. Up on the top level are four other knives, a Fairbairn-Sykes, Hanwei's Tactical Tanto, and a couple cheap-but-mean MTech's. I'd still go for the Gen2 first. As for swords, I've moved mine finally onto a wall mount. My mother's "boyfriend," for lack of a better word, was good enough to mount some shelves on my wall over my headboard while I was away once. He got some extra braces to go between each shelf to rest a sword on, so now all seven of my swords (including a bokken, at the bottom, most readily reached ) are up on the wall (behind some 20-30+ anime figures ) The gun cabinet isn't far off, either, but they're never loaded and the ammo is in the bottom, so not a wise choice when somebody climbs into my window in the middle of the night.

most times the threat of pain is more effective than pain it's self ....... give them reson to fear and let thair fear do your fighting

One of which pretties? The Bosnian? If so I actually have a custom version. I ordered one and they were out of stock, but was offered the company's own custom version, out of their own personal collection, with white horn and a slightly different style scabbard, for the same price. Naturally, I accepted. I love it dearly. Not bad for $200 US.

Nah, a sword rack over the headboard is a big step up in class from a gun rack on your pickup. At least I hope it is, since I have the former and have been avoiding the latter...

No headboard boys, besides the problem with the headboard is the other guy can see it coming, from the wall side post the guy has no idea until you roll over with the knife in your hand.
Random: I was referring to one of the blued gen 2 daggers that dan had for sale, or are you referring to a different customization?

Ah, so it was the dagger. Yep, I was the first one to buy one almost immediately after he posted them back in...was it June or July?. I was waiting for a chance to buy the second but it sold. I do adore mine.

Yes I wanted one of them but living in australia and lack of money prevented it, I am getting my slasher which even more exciting and that will live beside my bed with my glasses and phone.

Not to my knowledge, slav. I've had my kukri with its blade bared over my head for years without incident, here's to hoping my luck holds, eh?

Hahaha! My fingers are crossed.
It's one of those zero-infinity risk dilemmas...
almost zero chance of an accident, but almost infinite problems should one occur.
Personally, I wouldn't store a bare kukri over my head, but that's just me.

I wouldn't store any blade over my head, especially not bare and especially not sharp. Make a rig for the bedpost on your dominant side.
