Please feel free to move or delete this if it is deemed innapropriate. This one single page has a fairly comprehensive set of links. I'm posting this as a start in collecting information on the different sources in India. I will add more over time and try to mark some of the trails that lead from the sources to various retailers. Once one starts lokking through some of the individual pages, it is easy to spot both the better and lesser swords that represent production from that nation. I have never spent more than a few hours at a time on researching this but have seen some fairly clear connections. More later Cheers Hotspur; I do see what folk are saying about the latest 1796 from Cold Steel now. Hmmmmwww.esa-swords.com/SwordLinks.htm

The Indiamart site. Over 500 results for a search for "swords" www.indiamart.com/A briefer and fairly complete list of the major players of India and Pakistan www.ancient-weapons.com/swords-manufacturers-exporters.htmlWorth noting when plowing through some of those are swords you see at sites based in Spain and elsewhere. Look long enough and you will see virtually all of the replica military swords. Some better than others in historical appearance and likely quality for use. Cheers Hotspur; OK, that's abouot it for my attention span on this right now

Hey Hotspur, I think it is a great post Hotspur. I too, since owning several of MRL's Indian made swords have begun a wondering about Indian companies and all. The India made swords that I have, which are all Windless (MRL), are all well made great swords.
I have often wondered, who makes swords for the modern Indian military. I know that now adays it would be mostly ceremonial swords, but who made the cavalry sabres, etc, for the Indian military back when they were combat weapons? Was Windless around back then? FB

Freebooter, You can read some background about Windlass Steelcrafts at their website. It would seem the company began during WWII. www.windlass.comIf you run some searches on the India Mart site, you can locate military contractors. If you want to narrow down your "back in the day" inquiry a little, I may be able to point to articles and literature. I do know there seem to have been a more or less munitions grade tulwar being made during the 19th century but I know nothing about production and economucs there during that period. Cheers Hotspur; some interesting history there spanning thousands of years
