Actually, looking at a screencap from when Trunks cuts him in half, only the lower half of his body is made up of machinery; the rest seems to be mostly superficial enhancements.

I have but one counter to all of this: Shounen. That's all anybody has to say. There is no logic, there is no order, there is only when it works or doesn't as the "threat" dictates. Anyway, there are numerous swords from numerous anime that are completely practical...but they are mostly boring. When I read the bit about Shaoran's sword in CCS, I also thought of the Sword Card, which is effectively a rapier with wing-shaped guard etc. Granted, the tip was some weird mess of what but here's the wiki page: ccs.wikia.com/wiki/The_Sword_(%E5%89%A3) Now I want to watch the whole thing again.

Different metal aside, the Sword Card's tip reminds me of the stromacione tip you see on some rapier, like the one on Albion's Legend of Zorro sword.

I hadn't seen that sword before, not spending much time browsing Albion and all. Interesting.
The Sword Card is quite possibly the only anime sword I would buy as a decorative piece. Bonus points if it's good quality, "functional" grade stuffs, but I'd put a good replica up on my wall regardless. I miss CCS. I've been telling myself for years now that I need to buy both movies and just marathon the whole thing over again, but I'm not convinced I'll love it as much the second time. :?

I'm not sure you would, either; I rewatched it all the way through for the second time a year or so ago and it just seemed to drag in a large number of spots due to the amount of filler. I've actually got scans of the manga, but they're older scans, so they're not exactly the best quality in spots.
That said, I'm not big on decorative swords, but I am rather partial to the manga version of The Sword's Sakura Card.

Yeah, even when I first watched it, it felt really long and had a lot of stuff that could have been left out...but I still enjoyed it so much more than that "Cardcaptors" rot that made it over first. I still wish I'd gotten into collectibles and the like earlier, as I missed all the good CCS stuff. I only have one figure of Sakura, in some pink bunny thing, that I picked up at a con for something like $15 several years ago. There had been so many better figures that are so long out of print. I have this thing: www.archonia.com/mangashop/es/article/30446I just found this looking for that: www.aliexpress.com/item/1-6-Card ... 10810.html See what I mean? Anyway, swords. Yeah, I'd like any version of the Sword Card. I'd even buy the brooch for giggles. Oh, I just remembered all the terrible replicas of Nietono no Shana. Such an easy sword to recreate...not one successful attempt. Come on, guys.

Speaking of Nietono no Shana, I actually have something like half a dozen images of the hilt saved to my hard drive in case I ever find myself with some extra funds and decide to take a serious shot at recreating it. The biggest problem, from an accuracy standpoint, would be blade length; in-universe, it's referred to as a nodachi, but it's not even close to Shana's height and she can't be more than 5ft even.

As much as I hate Tenjou Tenge, I wouldn't mind a functional chokuto reiki. I can't find a picture of it. It's an odachi in a shirasaya. It's purple in the anime and , apparently, red in the manga, which means it's not really shirasaya, but you know what I mean.

If it's the sword I found on Google Images, then I'd call it more of a nodachi with aikuchi koshirae, since it appears to have tsukamaki.

Probably, if it's purple and being held by a chick with huge boobs or a guy with an eyepatch.

This is the best image I could find of it; looks like the anime decided to make it both purple and red:

Not sure if it's just me, but it looks like that site has hyperlinks/ img tags blocked. I see some kind of evil grin smiley face thing. Right-clicking and selecting "view image" brings up the picture, though.
Not sure what to make of that thing. Never got into this particular series, but images of this sword seen hard to come by. Safebooru (and presumably other boorus) have a few pieces of fanart, but they don't really agree with each other.

Not to derail here but what are the blade lengths for these? They look short.

I'd say they're about 18-20 inches.

Really I was thinking like 15, almost an o tanto.

I don't remember the exact measurements, but Onimusha's guess sounds about right. I'd say they're no longer than 21" per blade, probably with about a 10-11" hilt, which is fairly appropriate for a kodachi.

Now, the GB models look about 15".

Yeah that's what I was thinking, something uber short.

They'd really have to be. 15" for each blade plus about 8" for the handle on the lacquered one is already 38". When it's all in the saya, you've got something that looks like a long odachi. The whole assembly would be about 48" long.
