I've looked at Illusion Armouring. They seem to have a pretty good deal. A full 14th century International style harness for only $1300? It also supposedly meets all SCA standards as well.
Only problem is that to get it that cheap, you have to get it in plain steel. Which requires a lot of oiling.

Do NOT go with Illusion Armoury. Several people I know have been waiting for YEARS for their stuff, always getting the run-around.
Cased greaves (fully enclosed) are extremely hard to do well, and usually have to be custom made. The cheapest I have seen is about 300-400 just for them. Otherwise, if you are simply looking for wrapping thigh armour, knees and frontal greaves, those could conceivably be in the 200 range. Most of the time, with armour (especially designed for SCA) you tend to get what you pay for. I would rank Pitbull and Von Sussen at the bottom, Cet (RFTH), Ironmonger and Stonekeep about midrange, and White Mountain and HE at the top. Alternatively, you could contact someone like Patrick Thaden about custom making your armour.

Well, it'll be a while before I look into any serious armour purchasing. Maybe in a few years, when I have the need and space. Mine won't be for SCA however, but WMA steel blunts. I will keep your advice in mind Oswyn.

One other major difference between WMA armour and SCA is the ubiquitous 5-piece knees, which are heavily dished, to allow fighting from your knees. Most medieval armour was never designed to do this, and so therefore is shaped differently. If you are not planning on fighting from your knees, you might want to look at a custom armourer (depending on your personal level of historical accuracy).

For the group I'm interested in joining, historical accuracy is place very highly on the list of priorities. That being said, I have alot more to learn and read, and the armour is a distant goal. Much more distant then say, University payments, and housing. Oh, and food. That's important too.
I will probably end up assembling it a piece at a time. I'm looking at some smiths in Eastern Europe, to save a little money while still maintaining good quality.
My aim for this is to create a mid 14th century harness. Bascinet, Coat of Plates, spaulders, rerebraces, vambraces, couters, haubergeon, ect... I can save some money by making the Coat of Plates myself.
All will have to be assembled eventually. I have a great deal to learn and do before I can even start on that. A closer goal is getting my soft kit together. Gambeson, chauses, all that. This would be the foundation of the armour and also serve as a Ren-faire costume.

Yes I have. I think it's an awesome forum for armouring. It's heavily biased towards SCA, but there are many good armourers on there. As well as some good deals to be found in the classifieds, if you know how to looks.

As I have been on the AA for a while, the biggest way to get the SCA-dians to leave off, is to specifically mention what you are doing, or using it for. The site welcomes all kinds, but is a bit biased towards SCA. There are several groups on there both doing SCA and LH for the 14th century though.
