I have never had the need ! ;D marc ridgeway has a bit of a Hanwei collection, I think he has a helmet amongst other things. Maybe he'll pick up on the thread. If you ever come to Sydney. The Powerhouse museum in Darling harbour has a small Japanese sword and armour collection. They have quite a few blades( even a Japanese cane sword made from modified katana). Well worth a trip. www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=241380

I have a Hanwei Kabuto/Mempo set. It is great. It is totally wearable and very accurate. I also saw in person the Takeda Shingen armor by Hanwei, it looks also great and, for the price, is well worth it in my opinion. Here is a picture of my helmet which doubles as a sword stand for my Shinto set. Click on pic to supersize.

I Hvae the Hanwei Oda Armor, im not an expert on armor so i cant give a professional opinion but i like it, only thing i did was darken the threads using diluted fabric dye. You can pick up the Hanwei Armors pretty cheap now (one recently went for $400Au on ebay)... Im saving up for one from www.samurai-store.com as a graduation present, their prices are pretty good compared to Hanwei RRp of the Dragon armor

The body armor use to be a 55 gallon carwash barrel that I cut up with a jigsaw into plates. I then drilled them and tied them together. I also padded the inside with cellfoam.
I am thinking of putting together another one with a few modifications. I have some over lap I can do away with. I will also not put padding on the inside. The purpose would be to bring the weight down. I don't get hit on the torso much when I am behind the shield. I usually only get hit in the head or legs. I will still keep this body armor for melee combat and if I decide to fight with a non-shield form. Problem is that I am running out of space to keep everything. I may have to get rid of my workcloths, lol.

If its the same as the one on the Armor (from the photos id say it is..) then I can say that they are a traditional size, I have no chance of fitting into it but i knew that being 6'8" or so but i think anything over 6ft and youd have issues, though I could be way off...
Otherwise im not sure what to say, their solid heavy thick metal helmets and people that have worn mine with the mempo say its gets very hot and sweaty after a while (little to no ventilation) and after a time obviously it flet heavy and the padding meant it becamea tad uncomfortable....

Just a funny Japanese Helmet destruction test : Anybody know the minimal thickness that a metal object should have to make a good protection ?
