Hi all,
Last month I ordered a 9260 spring steel katana from Hua Wei. It was my second deal with them. The first order went very smoothly and without any major problems regarding communication (except that they gave me a different ito color). Back then I got t- 10 DH katana which appeared pretty nice and sharp, with good looking hamon. This time I put the trigger on the cheapest one (9260 spring steel, no-hi with musashi theme). Communication with them was prompt and straightforward. I decided to buy what they had in stock without any modification. They provided me with a tracking number and 10 day time frame delivery which was accurate as I received the characteristic styrofoam package wrapped in yellow tape on 9-th day. I was lucky enough not to pay any duties (thank God) so it was really cheap.
As you see this katana is nothing special. Tsuka and nagasa were wrapped in plastic bags. Everything was well secured in the styrofoam box.
Tsuka is rather thin and fits nicely in my hands, ito is tightly wrapped without any loose parts, samegawa panels are even but nothing special.Fittings are plain-musashi ring- iron tsuba with black enamel, fuchi kashira- alloy painted also black
The blade is the best part of this sword. Shinogi zukuri nagasa is nicely curved with well defined cosmetic yokote and mirror polish. One minor flaw which was one tiny black spot on katana tip(ura side)I cleared with 2000 grid sand paper.
Black lacquered saya is made from light wood and appeared thin. You can hear some rattlings when you shake the katana but it is $ 100 item! Shoelace sageo complements the saya.
I haven't had time to disassemble this katana to see if tsuka core is not cracked but I will be not swinging any time soon with this blade so I'm safe for now.The katana is rather light and its maneuverability is great.I am happy with the overall quality of this Hua Wei katana.Once again the Hua Wei company delivered what it promised on its website regarding the products.
Anybody who wants an inexpensive, well built katana shoud definately try the Hua Wei.
