Some time ago while I was cutting with my Del Tin 2130, the leather wrap started to peel off. I never did like the leather grip on this sword as it was quite slippery. Instead of glueing it back in place I removed the old leather and put some new leather on, with two small risers near the ends of the grip. I also wrapped the grip in cord before putting the new leather on. Later I also applied red/oxblood dye and some eco-flo super shene to the grip. Before I did the rewrap I blued the fittings with perma blue. It didn't work that well, so instead of a blue finish they have what looks like a worn blue finish. I actually like the worn looking finish. The hilt looks a bit used now, which fits in well with the blade, since it has a lot of scratches on it from sharpening. The pictures aren't that great, the sword looks a lot better in real life. Here is how it used to look: /thread/35136Attachments:

I think it looks great, especially the grip wrap. Your seam is so clean. Awesome.

Thanks, it's the second rewrap for me. Apart from the seam being a bit off center I am very satisfied with the results. I have always liked the combination of red grips and blued crossguard/pommel. I don't think blued hilts were common during the time period this sword represents, but I don't really care.

I am with you on both counts. I think a darkened fitting like that looks really nice on a sword like yours, and even if its not considered common for the time period, it is certainly plausible. I don't think it takes away from the "historical" look at all.

Albion offers a bluing option on their swords, even the early medieval ones, if i'm not mistaken. The photos on Albion Europe were part of my inspiration for this small project.

I just acquired this sword from the forum classifieds. I also fell in love with blackened hardware after spending an unhealthy amount of time staring at Albion’s products. Great minds…
I unboxed it today and was very pleased. Love the aesthetic. Grip looks great, hilt rustic blued furniture aesthetic is amazing. It has a medieval mercenary vibe to it.
It deserves a black scabbard soon.
