Hi. Hope all is well. I read your post about your customized Hanwei oni katana. I was wondering if you would be willing to sell me the oni face fushi that came with that sword? If so, how much would you charge just for that one fitting? Thank you for your time.

so...do we all have to have photobucket to participate and see this sword or am I missing something? First, welcome to the forums. Second, now you realize this thread is 5 years old... Your best bet is to send a personal message to the the member (OP) that created the original post and hope you get an answer. Third, since last Summer Photobucket cut all links to their image hosting site, thus screwing over over a decade of links and images all over the world wide web amd pissing off hundred of millions (or more) users, THEN sent a message to their user base that they better start to pay hundreds of dollars for what used to be free, or else screw you. Most people are not having it and uploaded their images back to their own PC or uses other 'free' image hosts on the internets, like imagegur. o7

I don't think its from the heat treatment alone. It kinda looks like an aggressive acid etch or some sort of polishing effect. I feel tempted to say we are seeing the several domains of martensite and bainite, which would make sense since the hamon seems to be under compression (as it should) and therefore wavier than the rest of the blade that has much less martensite in it, if any. Looks to be alloy banding. At least to my eye. I got it on a few knives I made from steel I got from Admiral Steel. It's pretty common depending on the bar stock. James Raw gets it on his blades sometimes.

Yeah, I agree. Looks like alloy banding now that you mention it.
