Does anybody know if they ever produced a functional version of Stormbringer from Michael Moorcock's epic Elric of Melnibone' books? Just curious...

Never mind. I answered my own question and pulled the trigger too soon. I found this page of the official Stormbringer sword approved by Michael Moorcock for sale to fans. Despite the limited 250 numbered run I doubt very many people took up the offer to purchase it from the armoury. www.raven-armoury.co.uk/stormbringer.htmIt's darn nice but I really wonder if it would be functional. It would be an expensive experiment to find out. Wallhanger or actual soul drinker - you be the judge. Even the John Carter Warlord of Mars deluxe edition sword ( no longer available ) is much more economical a purchase. *sigh* Oh well. So much for wishful thinking. Back to reality...

Someone over at SFI got one a few years back you might want to do a search there.....and from what I remember it was functional but for that money I'ld never think about using it..

It's 5 pounds and it is gaudy, sorry but it is, that handle whilst it looks ok is too overdone for me. I love simple weaponry that is functional and beautiful.

How do the stories describe stormbringer? It sings and fights the hand when it detects and hungers for souls. It drinks souls from newly killed bodies and sighs when it is satisfied. I do not know if it burps or experiences flatulence after it's meal.

I recall that part. I meant what shape, color, decoration, etc? The link to the replica pretty well shows what would be described or illustrated in it's various incarnations.

The sword was endorsed by Micheal Moorcock whom I understand takes his series very seriously, so I would assume that the sword falls into his image of what Stormbringer should look like.....I believe the first one made was presented to him.

The problem with most writers is that they don't understand the mechanics of the weapons they are writing about, look at final fantasy for example The thing about stories compared to real life is that everything is cool no matter how ridiculous the notion may be.

Dreaming in public is an important part of our job description, as science writers, but there are bad dreams as well as good dreams. We're dreamers, you see, but we're also realists, of a sort - William Gibson
