My first real sword, IcingDeath. Since I'm still a novice at being a sword collector, I don't know how a pro would rate it, but I personally like it. Here it is at Arms of Valor: www.armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=1103&Category_Code=F. It's reasonably long, but not overly so for a one handed scimitar. It's made by Windlass Steelcrafts, which I've heard has a reputation for making their swords a bit heavy, but after swinging it around for a few days it feels fine. The designers seem to have made it a little too realistic in one point though: The hilt has been designed for true elven hands, not the larger versions us humans have. Thus it is a little hard to maintain a good grip with one hand, at least until you get used to it. It's really made beautifully, with a nicely bound hilt, and decorated with some nice looking diamonds. The Elvish runes were an error though, as a sword taken from a Dragon's lair wouldn't have been decorated with Dark Elvish script, but that's delving into the story of the sword. It comes with a one mm edge, but I've managed to get it reasonably sharp with the accusharp. It won't break casually, that much I can say. I've lopped off thin branches with little effort, and sliced into a gallon jug of water. The tip is wicked for that sort of thing. This is obviously a dual purpose stabber/slasher, and it seems to me that a good style of fighting with this blade would be aiming your blows mostly with the tip. It takes little to no effort to pierce things like thick plastic and cardboard with the tip. In my book, it's a good sword. One thing to beware of though: The sheath is sort of cheaply made. Mostly plastic, I'd say, though the belt holders stand up well to abuse. I know, because when I accidently sat down wrong with the sword it was the belt that broke, not the the sheath. Speaking of which, I'm having trouble finding a good way to affix the sword to my belt now. Any good ways to get it to hook right?

Thanks for the brief review. Is the grip too short or too narrow? It's great that windlass to actual functional fantasy swords rather than the wall hangers everywhere else. Welcome to the forum. Have a Karma for the review.

FINALLY, someone has the balls to buy one of these. I've been wanting to, but I just never had the cash around when I was in "one of my moods."
Sounds like a pretty good sword, to be honest. When properly sharpened, I bet it would perform great.
Brenno, it sounds like the grip is too narrow. Even with a short grip, it should be relatively easy to hold (look at the Historical Excalibur....). Being unable to maintain a good grip sounds like it should be beefier.
Even without pictures or videos, this is a pretty good review. I'mm give you a Karma for being the first person to finally churn out a write-up on this sword.
If you enver get around to making a short video or taking pictures of it, please post them here. I'd really love to see what it looks like (aside from website pictures)

I'll get a few pictures up next time it snows around my place. Dramatic effect . And that's right, the grip is a little narrow, but I find it's easy enough to work around. I've got it to a nice paper-slicing edge now, and it's working great. My Karate senseis thought it was a good sword when they saw it (I'm guessing one or two of them is a sword enthusiast. Hi, to any of them that might be reading this). So, all-around, I'm really loving this sword, and if the next sword I buy performs as well as this one, I'm a blade devotee for life.

I'm actually considering purchasing both at some point - I'm concerned about waiting too long, because with Windlass there's no telling when they'll cancel the piece...

Sure hope they don't do that before I have a chance to buy Twinkle. I'd love to have the pair as well.

Wynter: props for buying the sword but it isn't a scimitar just to be pedantic I was considering this one myself but I am always worried I will buy a lemon and so as yet have only handled other peoples swords and have yet to own one myself.

I know it isn't a scimitar, but that's what they call it in the books, and that's about the closest I can get to finding any classification for it . I wouldn't worry about this one turning out bad on you. Just today I sliced completely through a gallon jug of water (Ah, the intoxicating pleasures of slicing something neatly!), and put nice shear marks through two quart water bottles. And I accidently clipped the wood I used to hold them up, and it sure wasn't the sword that got the mark in it! I compensate for the thin grip by wearing a leather glove, and it works nicely.

The other option is to strip the crap off the handle and make your own wooden handle for it

Because this is a friendly forum, I will do my best to be as non-offensive as I can.
...
I HATE forgotten realms and everything associated with it, and Drizzt is one of the primary reasons.
...
Somebody had to say it.
Welcome to the forums and congrats on your first sword though.

Sad day indeed when somebody says they don't like the Legend of Drizzt. Does that extend to all fantasy, or just the Forgotten Realms books? Personally, I love 'em. Especially Drizzt. The guy's got real character and courage, and he's as straight a hero example as you'll find. And, being a novice, I'm not going to take a chance and carve out my own handle. In my hands, there's no telling what might happen .

I HATE forgotten realms and everything associated with it, and Drizzt is one of the primary reasons. Hehe.. FR has its place, as does Drizzt. Indeed Drizzt is described as using scimitars in the books and other instances of existance.. the interpretations from Windlass seem more like sabers to me. I thought they (Icingdeath and Twinkle both) were longer than they should be but I suppose thats just my preference. Enjoy the new steel. Mandorallin

I just love the look of it. Does anyone know anything about this sword?

Know anything? Well, there's a review if you scroll up, if you'd care to read that. Or do you mean anything bad about it? I can't say I've found anything to complain about with this sword, aside from the fact that sharpening a 1mm edge is annoying. Easy enough with the accusharp though.

Karma to you. Those scimmy/sabers are sweet and I want them both. BTW, did you see the last book? They're on the cover. And Adam, even if the concept of good-elf-from-race-of-bad-elves bother you (Drizzt is the reason they're so popular- hate 'im for that if you wish), the books are great from a literary point of view. The diary portions depict inner feelings as precisely and artfully as any Shakespeare monologue, or even a Marlowe, and the plotlines are pretty good too. Not Tolkien, but good.

GO ELMINSTER!!
and LONG LIVE DRAGONLANCE!!
sorry.
Thanks for the review, I too have lustfully eyed that sword without working up the guts to buy it. No doubt it'll be a good investment if you don't cut too much with it, some fellow FR fan will certainly desire it enough to pay oodles for it.

GO ELMINSTER!! and LONG LIVE DRAGONLANCE!! Uhm... not to be a total geek but Elminster is on Faerun. Dragonlance is on Ansalon. The swords (sabers or scimitars) look pretty good. Glad someone bought em.

I know, that's why I said sorry, Drizzt is my number 3 fantasy binge series. Elminster (Ed Greenwood is an amazing writer by any genre standard) is 1st, and Dragonlance is second, and the newer Drizzt ones are 3rd. Hence my cheer preemption! It's like cheering for Dallas on a Skins thread. I've been reading these cheesy books for 11 years now, more than half my young life. Sad, or commendable? I'll let you decide, I'm leaning towards sad though

Hmmm I've "moved on" from Drizzt a while ago, but I still remember the story enough to know that the 2 swords have quite different origins - I don't see why they should be so closely matched. Seems like you have made a fun purchase though
