Well, my first sword ever came from the designer Kit Rae. I'm wondering who else has purchased any of these swords? They're not sharpened, but are Carbon Steel and full tang, heat tempered. Does anyone else have one of these? If you have, did you sharpen it? did it perform well? you can check them out at kitrae.net/fantasy/swords_of_the_ancients.htmli purchased the sword of mithrodin, kitrae.net/fantasy/KR25.htmlit's very well made, the tip is sharp enough and actuallycan punch a hole through a nalgene bottle, one of the hardest substances in the world. the dulled blade can put a serious dent in it, too. anyone else?

I bought the kilgorn a few years back at the dollar general (long story). As far as I am concerned these are stainless, and far from what I would call a battle ready sword.
I suppose they are fine for some people, but this guy's work is really not my cup o' tea.

I have 2 of them so far (Kilgorin II and Anathros) and plan to get the rest but I must say do not attempt to use them. They are tempered (mildly) but they are 420 stainless. Also they are "full tang" but that tang is a 1/4 inch threaded tail that the pommel is screwed onto. Most of them feature a hollow plastic handle (maybe all but there are a few I haven't handled). I'm not knocking the collection. Personnally I love them and plan to get them all but I am presenting the warning: The Swords of the Ancients from Atlanta Cutlery designed by Kit Rae are for DECORATION ONLY. It is because of the beautiful fantasy designs that they are actually too heavy for their own threaded tang under any kind of use (including swinging through the air without a target). Collect them and enjoy them as much as I do but make sure they last for a good long time and please don't swing them.
EDIT: I just looked again at the link and the Mithroden (My personal favorite) does have an all metal handle but it is only 420 stainless. It would take an edge but not well and still not safely.

A fair warning: Today I attacked my kilgorn with a 60 dollar musashi. The kilgorn fell apart, and the tang inside reminded me of Sept's Charlemagne sword, only thinner. I would be tempted to call it a rat-tail had the tang not been threaded into the pommel. Be very careful with these swords: They were not meant for much else but hanging on a wall.

Hanging on the wall is all they are designed for. The front page of the flyer that comes with them refers to the Kit Rae Collection as knife and sword art NOT knives or swords. They come with an art print and a chapter the story of the ancients these sword designs belong in. The logo on the flyer lists the full name as Kit Rae Fantasy Art. They are beautiful to collect to decorate with but definitely not tobe confused with a real sword.
