I stumbled on this site (maybe you've seen it before) that sells the Masamune - Sephirot's sword from Final Fantasy 7. The site: www.swblades.com/sefomanosw.htmlNow, according to the description, the sword isn't bad - it appears to be battle ready, at least from what I can tell by the description. I am not planning on buying it yet, although it would be nice to have and all To quote the description: "Hows about a sword like Sephiroth Masamune from final fantasy but fully functional. This sword is made out of traditional hand forged (kitae) high carbon steel with tsukurikomi process. This beautiful sword measures 61.5 inches in overall length with a 47.7 inch blade. The sword is full tang inside a wooden handle with real ray skin wrapped grip, black cotton cord wrap. It is held inside with 2 wooden pegs. The Tsuba is made out of oxidized copper. Blade thickness is .280 inches that comes to a point thickness of .218 inchess. Sword comes complete with a display box, informational cards, sword cleaning kit and sword cover. Each sword is indivdually serailzed." As you can see, it seems to be pretty good quality, the price being around 490 US dollars. Now, I just have a question on this - I am a beginner and don't know much about swords, I just read up on some basics, and that's all I know My question is - can this thing be used in a fight? According to the description, it has good quality and should be usable in combat. The price is also quite high, so to me that indicates that it is indeed real. Or is this just fraud? Edit: I don't keep swords to make my house look nice. I use them Not that I have one, sadly But that's why I am here! Thanks for reading

I was wondering that too, it doesn't say how much it weighs, but I'd say it may be around that. I am just a beginner though, so what do I know lol?
As far as I see, it's full tang, carbon steel etc, doesn't mention heath treatment and weight though.

That's quite nice, but I am looking for a battle ready masamune. This one can be used a light cutter, but I'm looking for something that can be used in real combat. I don't want swords for showing them off. The price of the sword in my post isn't an issue, I could get that kind of money, the one thing I want from the sword is to be battle ready. Thanks for the link

swordheart, I may be misreading you but your posts indicate to me that you are gearing up for some sort of gangland rumble. Or are you going to spa armored with mates? Do you have a sick ambition to rend someone in two?
Normally 'use' refers to tamishigiri or the like.

I'm a martial artist, I do not engage into unnecessary violence, and if I am forced to fight, I don't try to kill my opponents. When I said "use", I meant for practice and the like. Sorry about the confusion.

i think that the one from musashi should be ok if your using it for what its intended for i mean its a full tang high carbon sword thats double pegged it dont get much more better than that at a really great price to boot i think unless your going to beat it on a tree it sould do the job after all you can kill someone with a stainless steel wallhanger if you really wanted too...

This is true. Although I would like to know if this word can be used to cut down things too. And I sure wouldn't like it to break or something, not for the money I'd be paying.

Musashi has had quite an impression on people, if you go with the musashi one, you can't go wrong.
The 399.99 one (pics dont work for me, are there pics?) doesnt list any company.... Normally I'd try to stay away from those. Though I'm sure you, having the martial arts background would know how unorthodox using a sword this large would be. It seems like the pricey one they try to off set the top heavy-ness with the copper tsuka. Either way both will be pretty bulky.

Indeed, but I have my heart set on learning to wield such a sword effectively, and mastering th weight I am ready to put a lot of effort in it ;D Yeah I know, I'm crazy. Thanks

Unless you plan on using it against cavalry . I think historically they were not commenly used. Not very effective at close quarters. The Naginata does a better job against cavalry. This particular nodachi was made for the diehard fan. Yes it is functional but should be considered a light duty cutter. I would also like to note that the Nodachi sword on the other website is made from Musashi Swords. It is a discontinued item.

I love naginatas, true, they're better used against cavalry since they're long and can be put up against a charge. Heck, if I knew how to make good swords, I'd make the sephirot's masamune myself ;D Thanks for the info

Not sure if its true but my phishing filter just warned me about the website of being suspicious. Please be cautious when dealing with this site.
