OK - the concept of a titanium sword is not very practical. It can be brittle and edge retention is not that great. Very difficult to sharpen even. The only use I can think of is for a rapier or foil but that is about it. Thrusting capability and potential of such a metal may be very good but that is about it. On the other hand there is another supersteel out now called ZDP-189 which looks promising. I understand that Angel Sword uses a very propietary form of forged SR-77. With that being the case why even bother with titanium other than it being very light and stiff? With a proper sword design and the right steel a superior blade can be made very similarly to the fantasy titanium swords but will actually be functional.

Where did the myth of titanium being the best and strongest metal come from in the first place?

Where did the myth of titanium being the best and strongest metal come from in the first place? Because they used the metal extensively on jet fighters. So somebody got the idea to try it on some other application. Then everybody started to jump on the bandwagon trying to dabble and apply it to every other industrial and mechanical application. Titanium itself is not much different than aluminum in terms of it's strength and lightness. It is a different composition of metal and is supposed to be "stronger".

Titanium knives, especially those with titanium coating rather then completely made out of titanium are some of the best knives around For those not in the know... Titanium knives were made because they are non magnetic and do not conduct electricity. They are, also, resistant to corrosion. They have great edge retention but are usually not very sharp and difficult to sharpen easily. They were made specifically for spec ops and tactical use. They were not meant for the general public or as a camp and whittling knife. But... they are cool.

I have seen titanium scissors. I want some. I have a titanium probe ( looks like a long icepick ) for probing anti-personnel mines. I am sure the scissors are more utilitarian than my probe.

To add to the off topic discussion... the frames on my reading glasses are a titanium alloy... nice and flexible!

To push us kind of more back to topic of titanium in edged weapons..... I remember a number of Benchmade knives that have boasted titanium bearings and other fittings.... I handled them, and compared them side by side with my Cold Steel and Spyderco knives.... honestly, the only difference I noticed was an extra hundred bucks on the Benchmade pricetag....
vyapada, you should do a review on the frames of your glasses, according to The Godfather, a pair of glasses can be a handy weapon lol

I have some Titanium alloy scissors, and they are the best scissors I have ever owned. Now I really want some! BUT even though they are titanium alloy, is has enough iron in it to make it magnetic. But they are still kick-ass.

They would not be very good in a sword, no shock absorbtion. It would shatter.

They would not be very good in a sword, no shock absorbtion. It would shatter. You are exactly right.
