An additional note... in the first movie Conan was trained using a katana like blade by the warmaster.

If you read a lot of the books (I've read almost every story Howard wrote) it's pretty apparent that the big Cimmerian adapted extremely well to his surroundings, adopting local weaponry and used it all with great skill.
I particularly liked the story of him leading a band of hill tribes, adopting the 3-foot long hillman's knife. Reminds me of the Pathans and the Khyberknife.
I hope whoever directs this one pays more attention to Howard's stories and descriptions of Conan. IMO, the original stories just can't be beat.

Yeah I spent much of my university years reading the collection od Conan books from the library. I remember him using Scimitar quite a bit. But it was 11 years ago so it's a bit foggy.
Certainly the idea of having one sword last you hundreds of fights through your life is a bit proposterous. Kind of like how Indiana Jones would risk his life to get his hat back. Dumb. You'd do what you need to survive.

ide love to see a conan sword (a real one) that some could afford but ya i also hope they stick the conan from the novels, he was darker (in my mind) than they made him in the movies and comics, and more of a brooding thinker , in the movies , it looked like arnie was confused , except when fighting,,, lol,, but yes stay true to R.E.Howard!!!!! ;D

well if it is to be a cimerian blade then maybe a lil celtic influance?maybe a hand, and a half grip?maybe 34-36 inch blade?and lots of knotwork designs and runes? what about the one from the crypt in the novels ,,,not the movies.

Sounds good, but I don't remember it. Can you tell me more, and come up with an artistic impression?

I just unpacked 5-6 Conan paperbacks from my recent move. When I get home I will try to get photos of any interesting looking swords, if there are any on the cover or inside.

In the early cover art by Frank Frazetta he had a different sword in almost every painting, which is natural since Howard had him using almost every kind of sword depending on the setting. If you want to see some of Frazetta's work you can go here frankfrazetta.org/Oh axes too he is pictured with a axe as much as a sword.

I'd like to see John Lundemo of Odinblades do the swords for the new film. www.odinblades.com/But probably some Bulgarian guy is going to pick it up.

Brenno, I checked out the cover art on all 8 books. One straight sword, two curved swords and four with axes. No weapon on the other cover.
The swords were all drawn at extreme angles and really didn't show the swords very well. Strange, but I remembered them as being better illustrations...

Leo, I have that sword or one similar anyhow, used it in the calender pic.
Darko, nice pics. It appears Conan is ambidextrous
