Looking for information and where to buy a katar i stumbled upon this great site: www.ancientarms.bizIt sells Indian weapons of all sorts. But what you should check out is their newly made weapons, a REAL Damascus tulwar with silver engravings for 200usd anyone? I saw a review of a shamshir(tulwar is almost exactly like a shamshir but made in india) on SBG that was around that price and I mean this is a work of art for 200usd. What I will be buying from this site when I get the cash is the newly made silver engraved scissor katar for 150usd. Kanana's in all honor but I find this mutch more beautiful the engravings are just a work of art on all their pices, I can't understand how they can sell the stuff so cheap. A Indian dagger with gold engravings for 60usd?! I am in shock, and I hope this site will be useful for you guys it sure will be for me.

Well, I know what goes into pattern welded steel and the effort that is required and I just don't understand how this is possible unless it is damascene or really really poor quality pattern welded steel. Having said that we have a company in Australia called Valiant Co and they sell cheap weapons in damascus but they have been tried and tested in all manner of environments. I love pattern-welded steel but I am not sure that I trust something that cheap, not when I know how much a piece of good L6/1084 pattern welded can cost.

They have all kinds of "off" stuff. Like this which could pass as a saex if the bottom edge was sharpened (as opposed to the top). Lots of "tactical" knives and such like that. Some pretty basic shapes though, and I like the German Dagger. Reminds me of a baselard dagger for some reason. If anyone gets stuff from them, please do some in-depth testing. It would be great if quality daggers could be had for $40-60. Shipping might be a bit expensive, though. Edited because I forgot an ending URL tag.

When my next pay check comes I will probably buy one of their Katars(if my paycheck is big enough lol). I do not think that the blades they produce is of bad quality but that will be shown when I buy one of their products. I have always loved katars and I know a good one when I see it, and their scissor models that are newly made show exceptional work. The engravings are made by a master, there is not many people that can do this work and I doubt that this kind of work would exist to such a low price if the india "ranking"(I don't know the word in english) system didn't exist. Meaning that the person that did the katar that I want to buy or the guy that did the talwar has ancestors that has done this several hundreds of years and he was born to do this work and india labor is not worth much.
But the quality will be shown when me or someone else orders from this site. But judging by the eye the stuff they produce has the same quality as it has had for several hundreds of years.
If you have the money and want a good and rly beautiful weapon I suggest u buy the talwar for 250usd, seems like alot for the cash.

Well, I might be buying some of their stuff at some point because even if it is bad quality a shamshir is a shamshir and I don't actually think that they are bad quality after looking through everything. Those mugal blades with the pattern-welded sheaths are just so sexy. A very good site indeed but still worryingly cheap.

Yes after I found the site I spent around 3 hours just drooling at the stuff on the site xD, and yes even if the blade of the tulwar or any other of their weapons is of lesser quality I will still be happy to order it just because of the beautiful artwork these weapons are!

Some of them are too gaudy in my opinion, I like my sword to reflect my own personal nature and I don't in for flashy or gaudy. I like a weapon that looks more like a weapon than a piece of art personally but that is just me.

What is gaudy?(not an native english speaker) Ah I see I am more the otherway around, I can look forever on a beautiful weapon, and I can look for halv as long on an ugly weapon ;P.

have handled a couple of their pieces, more than worth the price you pay for them.. and just a reminder labor costs in India are still a fraction of what most of the world has to pay so yes they are cheap.

Gaudy means overly decorated. I spent a good few hours going through everything on their site and boy I really want one of those jade handled pattern welded steel jambiya, the scimitar they have and a mugal dagger with a pattern welded steel sheath.
Great find on this one si4k and good to know that someone has handled them. Have you handled any of their tulwars or anything? I would like to know if they are balanced like the classic indian swords or whether they have screwed up the balancing.

By chance, I owned both a tulwar & a khanda from Ancientarms. Here's an article I wrote quite some time back. Hope it's helpful. N.B. The khanda had been re-painted to bright red since then; it looks a lot less sissy but I 'destroyed' the soft texture of the velvet surfaces in the course of re-painting

Ah well as the tulwars they are making now look just the same as the did a good 500 years ago I wouldn't call them gaudy ;P. I sent them an email asking if they could do a custom work for me, a 3 bladed katar just like the ones you can have in diablo 2 .

Larry: You finally answered a question for me, I always wondered where that pink basketed blade came from you had in your avatar for so long. I always thought it was a basket-hilted saber though. Great reviews, I also personally like the fact that they are blunt, because they are said to be the trickiest weapons to learn to use so blunts are fine by me. Hopefully I will get a job soon and can get one of these bad boys.

I have an interview with macdonalds on monday so hopefully that will net me some work and some cash as I also need to buy an iaito for ninjitsu. I also need to scrape enough money together to get married and then I might have to get one or two of the swords from these guys, I would love to get the armour set they make as I reall like unique types of armour.
