You would be, wouldn't you?
I don't know, it's actually had my interest for a little while now, too. LOOKS good, but the fact that it's a Windlass keeps me back. Not so much for their typical quality issues, as the fact that the darn thing won't be sharp, and sharpening something like this isn't something I'm much up for. I've also not heard the best about the sharpening service offered on most of their stuff, even if it's available for this.
It's certainly pretty, and a fair size. 19 1/4" is nothing to sneeze at, especially with that shape.
I'll have to look up what it costs, as the once-known figure escapes me presently. That alone would decide if I'd chance it.
If you do get one, do be so good as to share impressions.

I've also been looking at this, its pretty inexpensive (150 or under I think). Wood core scabbard too I think, nice added value.

Kult of Athena do this sword and offer sharpening for $18.00. www.kultofathena.com/product~item~401178~name~Spartan+Lakonian.htm I got my 15th C longsword + sharpening from them. It produces a machine ground secondary bevel that is fairly unevenly applied, i.e the width of the bevel varies somewhat along the length of the blade. It is very sharp though.

Thanks for the info, Ken. Yeah I like KOA myself, have bought some other blades from them. I hadn't used their sharping service tho and is good to know they do a decent job. I was leaning twoard Reliks because I got a couple vouchers for them from my KC gladius reveiw. Anyone have experience with their sharping service? At any rate I'm still in the contemplative stage so welcome any opinions.

Hi, first post. I used the reference to Kult of Athena to order a Spartan Lakonian. I've just received it. I had them sharpen it, and I can agree that it is very sharp. They were easy to work with, and I can't see that the sharpening cheapens the blade much, if at all. I say buy it.....mh

Thanks, mhalliga, and welcome. I am on the verge of ordering one of those myself. I'd be interested to know how it cuts.

I find the grip just a bit thin. It is tough to keep a good hold on it. If I were to have one for my personal use I would wrap the grip in a chorded leather.
It is also really not much more than a big dagger. So cutting even when sharpened is not as easy as cutting with a longer sword when mass = speed and power.

She said "Step closer then my son, step closer."

Many thanks for the warm welcome. I like the grip, myself. Like the blade, it seems to be patina-ing from moment to moment, so one less thing to worry about. I agree, however, about the cutting- or lack therof. My "Practical" Katana really needs both hands, and my "Godfred" damascus Viking, while shortish as these things go, just really wants to be swung. Each is clearly for cutting. In Aikido, long ago, I learned, in Happo Giri (eight-ways cutting) to use the point of the blade, and I suppose Vikings did to, but the point is not the point of these. However, back in the 1980s, or even before, I showed my Randall #2 to a colleague, and he said "Now that is 'entry wound'" That might be said in spades of the Lakaonian. It is really not a knife. Way bigger than my biggest Bowie. But as a sword, it is for last ditch thrusting, which I suppose is how the Spartans regarded it. Anyway, a good reason to join the Athenian Navy.....
