I've been searching through most websites and ebay and I end up with the same falcata that costs 64.99 plus 30.00 s/h. It says its carbon steel. Can someone help me out pointing a place where i can buy something affordable but not cheaply made? Just keep in mind my operating budget is sub $100 per sword, economy isn't that high, and child support, loans, also got a knack for firearms (own a glock 23 and a mossberg 590) which further drain the pocket.......thanks for the advice

A good falcata for sub $100 may be a bit tricky. According to the resident expert, JP Franco, the two to look at are the Generation 2 Falcata (a soon-to-buy on my list) and the Windlass MRL Falcata. They are both in the $150-160 price range. Take a look through this page of the "Short Swords" thread for ideas. However, you never know. You might find one of those two on ebay within your budget? Good luck on the search.

Well if you were willing to spend...say...10 times your set amount, I could direct you to some good custom makers who could get you the best made and designed falcatas you could ever dream of... But since you're limitted, I'll say that you might want to get in touch with JP Franco just because he's handled and/or owned just about every sub $300 sword I can think of

If you want a falcata look/usefulness, try a Cold Steel machete of sorts. They have a whole bunch of different blade designs, including one shaped like the kopis of ancient Greece. Those run about $20-30 on their web site, but you can probably find them cheaper. They are not as nice looking as the windlass or Gen2 falcatas, but they are extremely durable and fit easily within your price range. Good hunting.

Thanks for the advice. Precisely I'm getting a Cold Steel Magnum Kukhri that is a carbon copy of a falcata (minus the fancy handle). For 28 bucks I'm getting a functional weapon that mimics the real use of the falcata (landing heavy armor splitting blows), as a machete chop chops by using hard blows on most surfaces it was designed to chop (not to mention soft tissue and bone, hehe). That is better than the Kult of Athena's display Falcata that costed $8 more and was not built for action.

Got the Cold Steel Magnum Khukri which is shaped more like a falcata/kopis for only $28.75 on eBay (s/h included). However in the Cold Steel website, they have new models with a kopis looking machete and a Viking seax machete.

Larry, that's weird, I could have sworn you already had the Deepeeka version... Maybe I'm just remembering incorrectly?

Larry, like I have written before, I have handled the Windlass and it is a good sword. I know that Deepeeka has a hit and miss history. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe I'm just remembering incorrectly? kriegschwert, nope~ I've not gotten it...yet... though I could actually have had; I was in GREAT dilemma deciding which to go for, thus channel my savings to the Sword of Oran instead I'm not shy to say that, to date, I'm still very undecided Sigh~ JPfranco... from both the pix, I deduce the Windlass' will be more balanced thus better handling in terms of control, whereas the Deepeeka's will be more blade heavy; but I also read from some literatures that they are supposed to be blade heavy in order to 'hack' well.. thus my dilemma.

Okay, cool. For some reason I thought you had gone with the Deepeeka. I guess my memory is going now that i'm an old guy. ;D I sure like the scabbard on the Deepeeka better, but I agree with JP, they just don't have the reputation of Windlass, yet.

Larry, if you are looking for the best falcata on the market I would be tempted to advise you to buy the Gen2. Now I am not sure about the laws of your country about sharp swords but I bought the Gen 2 after careful consideration over the Windlass. The reason, I prefer the straighter blade of the Gen 2 but the Windlass is still a great buy.

kriegschwert, perhaps it's the determination I gave the other time that causes you to believe I've gotten the Deepeeka Falcata

JPfranco, 2 reasons I'd not go for the Gen2 option: (1) I prefer curve blade on a Falcata, & (2) I'm not sure if the sharpened blade could get past our local Customs authorithy, though I've successfully imported the HanWei "Albrecht II" Hand-and-a-half which most people would consider sharp (but not razor-sharp). The one thing I like abt Gen2 products would probably be their reputation of well-built & sturdiness, though. But generally, I'd not buy anything that I know it's sharp, just in case Those having a slight edge or edges of abt 1mm is OK, I deduce.

I've been in the market for a good falcata, myself. About a year ago, I'd actually ordered one from Medieval Weapons Art's website. Unfortunately, the item was on backorder, and not expected for several months, so I cancelled my order. I forget which it was, now. I seem to recall them advertising a fully-sharpened edge as an advantage they held to their competitors. I'd buy MRL's if I could get it sharp. So far I've only found the sharpening option on Kult of Athena, also the best price, if I recall. I'm not sure if I trust the offered sharpening service on MRL blades, though... As for the Gen2, it's great, but I'd really like more curve to the back. Hurry up and buy one so you can tell us if it's any good.

I wanted it badly, too, but you see, I'm 'bleeding' from a purchase I ordered from Lutel plus a (supposedly) Musashi kat which I bought from a local retailer; I'm currently deperately saving up for some household maintenance work... before my wifey got mad at me & stab me with one of those swords For now, I'll just take time to ponder which to buy... Deepeeka..? Windlass..? Deepeeka?? Windlass..?? Deep... ;D

If it helps, depeeka has a LOT of bad reputation in the sword market for making weak, poorly balanced swords...
don't know if I've said that before somewhere...

Nowadays I'd go with Windlass, myself, if only for aesthetics. Gen2 has a very nice falcata, and their reputation is certainly enough to sell it to me, but I really like the shape of the Windlass. I might grab one from Kult if Athena, they offer sharpening, and even with that extra, they're still cheapest I've seen.
